Product Description A novel about starting life over in the middle and ending up better than ever. Great husband, great job, great friends—life in the middle is just about perfect. But sometimes decisions made in the distant past have a very long reach. When Rose Lloyd's husband announces he's leaving, Rose loses it all . . . husband, job, and best friend—her whole, perfect middle-aged life. Revenge of the Middle-Aged Woman, already a bestseller in the United Kingdom, flips the usual midlife crisis tale upside down. Rose rejects the vengeful, wronged wife routine in favor of baking up to that fork in the road she faced twenty years ago. Then she had to choose between two very different lives. Now she has a chance to take the other path to find out where it leads. The result: the story of a middle-aged woman spurned becomes a celebration of independence and self-fulfillment. Elizabeth Buchan draws true-to-life characters that could be friends, neighbors, even yourself. In her novel, Buchan offers up an unexpected twist on the story of relationships, love, betrayal, and "happily ever after."
Download Description Get ready to cheer for Rose Lloyd, a woman of young middle-age who proves that starting over doesn't have an age limit. After twenty-five years spent juggling husband, career, and kids with admirable success, Rose suddenly finds both her marriage and her career in unexpected ruin. Forced to begin a new life, she is at first terrified, then energized, by her newfound freedom-it's amazing what prolonged reflection, a little weight loss, a new slant on independence, and some Parisian lingerie will do for the psyche! Witty, insightful, and emotionally resonant, Buchan's novel will strike a chord with anyone who has ever wondered what Middle Age would look like from the other side of the looking glass (answer: much better than you could ever expect).

Disregard title. April 26, 2008 The title "Revenge of the Middle Aged Woman" is woefully misleading. This book is more than the fluff that you would think it to be...it's smart, it's subtle, it's inspiring and it rises above the insipid books that too often litter the fiction of the wronged woman. Rose Lloyd never regrets the life she has led with Nathan even though he has given her plenty of reason to do so. She always struggles to see him in a compassionate light, which is rare. Most characters are so eager to see their partner in a one dimensional light which brings nothing new to the table...All in all--a wonderful read. If you like the fluff stuff like Sandra brown or Helen Fielding, you may not be able to appreciate this insightful little book....
Don't judge a book by it's title March 29, 2008 The title of this book is misleading. It makes you think you are going to read an all fluff chick-lit kind of book. What you find instead is a tender portrayal of a woman going through major upheaval in a life that she had no conscious desire to change. The book is beautifully written and thought-provoking, with a good message about how anyone can reinvent themselves at any age and thrive, even if the changes are forced as a result of something unwelcome happening. The main character, Rose, is very believable, and she grows on you as the story unfolds. The other major characters are also well-developed, with the exception of the "home-wrecker" Minty, who was a bit too one-dimensional. She works nicely as a villian though. All in all, a great read!
Very enjoyable and light reading November 21, 2007 I really enjoyed this book. There are many situations where couples who have been married for many years find they don't really have all that in common anymore. The best part of this book is the woman came through the divorce alot better than the man. He has alot of guilt on his plate. I think it provides alot of inspiration for woman who have to go throught something like this. And sometimes we are alot better off even thought it has been difficult to deal with.
Warning! It's not too late to cancel your order!!! August 10, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After reading the "blurb" on the back of the book, I was looking forward to tucking-in to a pleasant, light read. Early on, it was obvious that this story was FAR from what I expected. According to what was promised in the synopsis, "funny...witty", "...cheer for Rose Llyod...", "...this triumphant novel will strike a chord...", it sadly turned out to be NONE of the above. I never found any reason to cheer, as it was not that type of story, and I slogged through poor Rose's sad state of affairs. I also grew weary of the many flashbacks and ended up skipping some of these sections all together. If you are expecting what I expected out of this DEPRESSING book, you too, will be disappointed.
Don't Bother! June 25, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I found this book to be dreadful. I don't even know why I finished it. I would speed read through sections that were unbearable and pointless only to be disappointed with the main plot that never went anywhere. The title looked intriguing but this book was anything but that. I have to say that I will not be buying or checking out anymore books by this author..no matter how delightful the titles may sound.
