3 out of 5 stars No Nutritional Values??   April 27, 2008

Great recipes, great diet, but a cookbook that is teaching you a great new way to eat MUST include nutritional values. To me that's a huge oversite.

5 out of 5 stars We need another book Jorge!!!!   February 20, 2008

What a wonderful cookbook - please make another one, this makes my busy life so much easier. I have read so many reviews on this book. I have to tell you that you just need to give it a chance. I know that everyone out there needs to find a diet that works for them - when you find that diet you will achieve your goals. But don't cut down what many people have found to be a good one. For myself I have tried a lot of diets out there, until I finally realized that it wasn't about the diet - it was about my attitude - my making the change of life - not dieting - knowing that this is something I have to do for the rest of my life - a change in eating.... I did find it in the 3 hour diet. I don't like calling it a diet...I call it a change of the way I eat for the rest of my life. I actually haven't even finished reading the book - but I took the essentials I needed to get my new life on the way - I started my new life on Jan 15, 08 and as of Feb 18, 08 I have lost 15.6 lbs. I am not going to lie the first week was tough - I was extremely tired and hunger - but when the second week came along - it was like a whole new energy came along. I am not saying that the losing weight journey is easy by no means. But I do feel by eating what I want - it has helped. I have 92.4 lbs to still lose, but I make small monthly goals for myself which is a great reward at the end. So for all those neg people out there - just give it a chance - and for those that are out there losing .... keeping dropping those lbs.

5 out of 5 stars On the 3-Hour Diet   January 10, 2008

I have currently been on the 3-hour diet since May 2007 and have lost a total of 50....yes FIFTY POUNDS, mostly in my first few months on the diet.

I made it through the holidays as well, and even lost another couple of pounds even though I "cheated" a little here and there. Jorge's plan WORKS and it gave me my "bounce" back.

All the girls at work did the diet too, and lost 35 pounds and more EACH! Our candy bowls at work have been replaced with 100 calorie snacks and veggies in the fridge. We feel SO much better!

I definately reccommend this diet to anyone who is really serious about losing weight and being healthier all around.

5 out of 5 stars The 3-Hour Diet Cookbook is a revelation.   January 7, 2008

I have never before used a diet cookbook that actually has recipes that are inventive, healthy and delicious. My husband keeps saying he feels like we're eating in an upscale restaurant. I typically rate recipes inside the front cover of my cookbooks with four stars standing for excellent. I have a majority of four stars on these recipes. I have post-it notes sticking out of our particular favorites, but I have so many pages marked that it seems they are all favorites. We really like the Quick Broiled Flounder, Grilled Chicken with Mango Corn Salsa, Marinated Flank Steak, Chicken Gorgonzola Wrap and Apricot Pork over Rice. The only problem is that I make the recipes which serve four hoping for leftovers and often have very little to save for another day. If we could eat the proper portions, I'm sure we would be losing more weight. I heartily recommend this book. I even bought it for my daughter for Christmas. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Value of the book is in the way it illustrates balance   November 30, 2007

I use this all the time now. I find the benefit of the book to be the way it illustrates HOW to put together a balanced weight loss meal. (The American Diabetic Association has even adopted a plate method as a meal planning tool in addition to food exchanges and carbohydrate counting methods) It also shows how to go from a non-cook or a person relying on meal replacements or prepackage meals to planning and cooking their own diet meals. Yes, he does use convenience foods such as the boxed soups. But, this if fine for the beginning cook or meal planner. I simply make my own versions of the squash or tomato soup following low-sodium recipes. And, I make my own low-fat salad dressing to cut down on the sodium and sugar I consume from the commercial versions of them. But, this is a personal choice of mine.

I find the recipes easy to divide or multiply. I have made enough for 2, 4, or 6 depending on who is sitting at my table.

He specifically states that: every MEAL is 400 calories, every snack is 100 calories, and every treat is 50 calories making it easy to count calories and watch portions. Don't like the snack he has listed? Swap out another one. There is a snack and treat exhange list included.

The book even includes quick start plans for the meat lover, the carb lover, the heart healthy person wanting to watch those trans fats, and the lacto-ovo vegetarian. Regardless of what ingredient is listed in a recipe, it is always a good idea to read the label. Manufacturers change their ingredients, formulas, and portion sizes all the time. (Remember when a 14.5 ounce can used to have 16 ounces?.

Incidentally, trans fats are a type of unsaturated fat-monounsaturated or polyunsaturated-industrially created by taking additional fatty acids and adding them to the unsaturated fat thus turning it into a saturated fat -- a process developed in the early 1900s by a german chemist to stabilize fish oil. (I'd check the fda.cov website for more info or for the latest regulations regarding trans fat labeling in foods)

Don't want to eat a trans fat? Make sure you check the label. Like I said, things can change.

This book is great for those are easily overwhelmed (like me), who want to start planning their own meals-out of desire or necessity- and don't know where to begin, or who need a specific plan to follow.

I use mine all the time now and it has replaced a few other books in my library. I have mine all marked up with my favorite salad dressing and soup recipes.

Plus, it has lots of color pictures. I mean....C'mon. Who doesn't like pictures?
