Champions Body-for-LIFE is not just another diet or fitness book—it's a book of personal transformation. The Body-for-LIFE 12-week journey has changed the lives of millions. What makes it so successful? It's Simple. It Works. All it takes: - 12 weeks
- 4 hours of exercise per week
- 6 small, balanced, and nutritious meals per day—never be hungry again
Now, Body-for-LIFE Champions and Challengers share how they created new and better lives for themselves, simply by following these three rules: 1. Know your reasons for changing (Chapter 2) 2. Write them down (Chapter 3) 3. Get started (Chapter 4) You do have the power to change your body, your mind, your life. Read how men and women become Champions as you follow the 12-week story of two Body-for-LIFE Challengers. Mark Unger, a major in the U.S. Marine Corps, and Alexa Adair, a college student, share their personal Journeys of Transformation—from their Decisive Moments, to Starting the Challenge, Week 12, and a year later. Week by week, they chronicle the excitement, the tough moments, and the life-transforming experience of finishing their own personal Challenges. Science Shows Body-for-LIFE Works For more than 10 years, millions of people have proven with their real-life transformations that Body-for-LIFE works. Now science shows it works, too! Body for Life July 6, 2008 The author does a very good job of explaining how to reconstitute health via imagination, exercise and diet. A definitive connection is made between the mind, body and soul. A carefully crafted program is provided which includes: o rest o water o workouts o journalization of the routine o goal formulation o resistance weight training including > of reps and weights
The author indicates that the body needs protein, good fats and carbs. Many good examples are provided. Samples of protein are chicken, tuna and salmon. Complex carbs are lentils, sweet potato, squash and yams. Veggies are broccoli, asparagus, cauliflower, spinach, celery and zucchini.
Good fats include avocado, seeds, fish and nuts. Complex carbs and protein should be eaten simultaneously. Sample exercises are depicted, as well as a yearbook of successful participants. The book is an excellent value for the price.
changed my life June 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Lifting weights was never my thing, but these people's stories inspired me to give it a try (it also taught me that unlike aerobic exercise, lifting weights boost one's metabolism long after you finish.) I now feel stronger and better about myself. I am not a 100% committed champion, but this book has given me the confidence to have entered a Triathlon at the end of September at age 56. I feel like a kid again. I now need to focus on the nutrition advice in this book which seems as though it will enhance all my work outs. I love each champion's story. I gave this book to my college aged daughter who also thought it was very cool. It's inspiring and practical and personal. I'' be giving it to friends, colleagues and trainers as gifts.
great book! June 15, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I thought this book was so inspiring! I read the first BFL book 7 years ago and completed the challenge. This book provides tips from competitors and insight into their success. I would definitely recommend this book to a new or returning bfl-er.
Filled in the Blanks June 9, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was looking forward to this book because I'd been told it would "fill in the blanks," and address unanswered questions from the original Body for Life book. I'm happy to say Champions Body for Life does that. While the original book is excellent, those completing their 12-week challenges often find there are lots of questions that go unanswered in the book. Champions Body for Life addresses most of these.
There is much wisdom to be gained from hearing how current/former champions overcame hurdles that MANY "BFLers" face in their own transformations. I appreciated their input and found it really helpful.
I'd recommend this book as a great supplement to the original book (by the way, nothing about the original Body for Life program is changed in this book...it's the same plan for transformation, with extra nuggets of info and wisdom). It helps to hear success stories from as many REAL-LIFE people as possible when you are seeking your own 12-week transformation!
A must for challengers June 9, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Where was this book when I did my first challenge?
It's obvious this book is meant to be a companion to Bill Phillips' Body for Life not a replacement. Body for Life gives you the tools to get started, Challengers Body for Life gives you tools as well, but it also helps you understand what you're going thru week by week is common. There is humour in the book that you may not understand unless you're a Body for Lifer, but you will quickly appreciate as you go follow a 12 week challenge period.
Some of the editing is a little subpar and now that Abbot owns EAS and Body for Life, it stands to reason they would have a say in the book as they are a business and have a right to make a profit.
I am half way through the book and will add a follow up when I'm completely done. Thus far, it is an excellent and necessary companion to your BFL book.
