 There is another book like this, but MUCH better... May 17, 2008
it's called the Bible. Tolle's book is New Age mysticism mixed with amateur Buddhism and a dash of Gnosticism. There is one God, one Savior, and One Way. People will always be looking for the "Next Big Thing" (like this book) when the Real Thing has been there all along.
Come to an understanding that there is absolute right and wrong. The wrong is called "sin". Know that you sin, and that you therefor are a sinner. Know that you need forgiveness and that only God is in the position of authority to grant your pardon as He is the arbiter of all and the author of everything. Know that Jesus, God's only son, was God in human flesh (so that God might be identified with and through His creation) and that Jesus came to teach the way to salvation through himself. Know that Jesus died to pay for your sins, so that you would not pay for them in Hell (which was created for Satan and his angels, by the way, NOT as a punishment for us- it is only by refusing God's easy way to salvation that we condemn ourselves *yes, WE do it* to Hell). Know that by simply accepting Jesus' sacrifice and believing in the power of atonement through the blood he shed on the cross, and His subsequent rising from the dead (which exemplified his victory over sin *The wages of sin is death*) that you also may partake in an eternity in Heaven and meet the Creator of the universe and live in His presence forever.
Repent, believe, be Saved. It's so much easier than buying books and spending years or decades searching aimlessly.
As for the scoffers- Whether or not you believe is irrelevant. Oxygen can not be seen and yet we die without it. God simply IS. It's up to you to choose. Please do so wisely.

I am very glad that I purchased this book, then the audio book because it is so different than anything I've ever heard about spirituality. I am a Christian, so I had to have an open mind to listen and/or read it because it focuses on life and living in a very different way. I would recommend it to anyone, even if you find you don't agree with Eckhart Tolle's way of thinking, because it is still enlightening.

A friend of mine recommended this book as one of the best books that they ALMOST read. They had purchased the book on Oprah's recommendation and started the book---really enjoyed the start but just could not get though it---they thought that they would get back to it some day. I was intrigued so I took the book out of my local library---I had to wait a few weeks---once again the power of an Oprah recommendation. I started the reading the book and was very impressed with his philosophy but knew that I had read similar and eminently more readable philosophies that asked us to be Aware and Awake---I recommend all of the writings of Anthony Demello as alternatives or further reading for those who semm to believe something is here but can not get through the stuffiness of this volume---Demello writes with a sense of humor and a heart of love. reading his work will inspire many. The three stars are for my affinity to Tolle's philosohy not the book.

This is an excellent book. Not one to be taken lightly, not one to be followed like a manual, but one to bring into your life and let it manifest in a positive way. You are the keeper of your thoughts. Sometimes we can't help but go on a tangent in thought hoping it will reveal some comfort,but realizing that you are creating stress with thoughts that simply won't change a thing. These obsessive thoughts are worthless as we were not meant to understand it "ALL". Replace those thoughts with hope and faith and know that the universe "GOD" gives us people and situations in our lives that offer us lessons that need to be learned and will continuing doing so until we've actually learned the lesson. Just surrender and let things be as they are, knowing that you are still the perfect "you" that was created in HIS image for a purpose greater than ourselves. It keeps me from creating issues that just really don't exist in the universe, but only in my head. I learned much about my ego's need to control by trying to justify, judge, and condem, issues & people in an attempt to justify my own ego and increase my self worth. It is these empty thoughts that lead to alienation from intimate relationships and rob you of your joy and peace. Thank you and God bless your indivual journey.
Content is Excellent, the Reading is Awful May 16, 2008
I'm convinced that Eckhart Tolle did not read this. Yes, it's his voice, yet it's robotic and devoid of passion. My GPS unit has more enthusiasm. The content is brilliant of course, yet the plodding monotone reading steals it's power. Stick with the book.
