A nice book for Kindergarden February 28, 2008 I learnt Japanese long ago. I did not use these types of books when I was a student. This book would be better for Students learning Japanese at the Kindergarden/basic level. A review above this, which says ''American men who like Japanese girls have this book'' sounds funny, but may be true. I gave one star because it has kanji and kana.
Cute, yet functional January 22, 2008 I got this and Dirty Japanese for my son and his girlfriend, so they could be silly at each other and maybe improve their minds with another language at the same time. I liked them so much I wish I'd picked them up for myself. I'd recommend these books for anyone trying to learn casual Japanese. Delivery was about what I expected and the transactions came off without a hitch.
Making out? Not so much April 21, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book is titled "Making Out in Japanese," but that's not really what it's about. This has the most basic phrases and words that you'll need to get by. I've been studying Japanese for 4 years in school and I've still been able to pull some good information out of this book. It has text written in Romaji (English letters of Japanese words) as well as Japanese kanakanji (with furigana).
This is a great, great book and I recommend it 100% to anyone less than fluent.
***Also, the last section of the book does talk about "romantic" relationships, so I guess the title sort of works ^_^
Interesting and funny but not useful to the beginner March 7, 2007 0 out of 6 found this review helpful
If you are reading this review...that is how most reviews start out. But this is a book worht the used or new price. The only thing I warn is that you should be advised...wait...I mean warned that it is geared towards someone who knows jaanese intermediately.
As a beginner to japanese and teaching myself at home in my spare time...I enjoyed it. It will not be that useful to me now sitting in a rural town where there has not been a japanese person evere. but I am digressing. It is good to read through and gives you some knowledge that if you do not use now, you can in the future.
You might ask "so waht?". Well you are rght. This book really is a side track for those who learn languages. It is not osmehting that will teach you much, but it gives you something to waste time on. it's funny and just like the usa. It might work. The cheesy lines in here. Depends on if the guy or girl likes you or not.
The other reviewers who said it worked on their "japanese wife". Are really just trying to sell you their used book. If you think this book is going to get you a japanese mate...I'm sorry to say you are wasting your time. but if you feel like you have the extra few bucks to burn. It could be an interesting way to spend some time.
If you know japanese and want to make some osrt of a phrase expansion mentally. This could be a total waste of time, because in english I have never said any of the things in this book and can't see why anyone would in japanes. It is just too structured and fake.
It is one of those "help you get a japanese mate" books. And it comes out of the early 90s late 80s . A time when people would fall for such dating books.
I actually grew up with ERika geers the author of this book. It is her sense of humor,a nd do not take it seriously. If you are in a good financial position this book can give you some laughs. If you are on a tight budget or younger than 30 don't waste your money...unless you want to.
hey, it's up to you.
Good Luck with your language studies.
Enjoy.
For any Traveler!! January 26, 2007 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
Making Out Series Books are the BEST language books that i have ever used. Using the K.I.S.S method (keep, it, simple, stupid) this book makes it easy to learn everyday Japanese quickly. Easy index lets you find what you need to say fast aswell. This book is the only book that is always in my bag. I liked it so much i bought the Chinese version (seriously)!! Great price so if something happens to it you won't break the bank buying a new one. In a nutshell - If you learn all the phrases in this book, then you will have a very very good understanding of Japanese Language! Oh Yeah!! Makes a great gift for Japanese people too!! With the Kanji in it Japanese people will be able to read that to say it in english. Which helps out both of you!!!
