2 out of 5 stars Not what I expected   January 19, 2008

This book could have been a five page free download from the Drs website(the website is actually much better than this book)
No more back pain-well, not from reading this book as I learned absolutely nothing new. Yes, bad posture makes for a painful back, but is that considered revolutionary thinking? The "exercises" are not explained well at all and the pictures do not help. Also, cartoon characters showing an exercise when I have paid almost $15.00 really is very annoying. This book needs a video to go with it and the Dr needs to understand the people who have purchased this book do so because they are in pain. Telling you not to arch your back and to hold your abdominals in when you perfom daily tasks is a bit condensending and self serving.
The reason I gave it two stars is because if you have absolutely no knowledge of anatomy or the link between back pain and your core, you may benefit.

5 out of 5 stars changed my life in a physical way   July 2, 2007

It's not that i've never heard that you are supposed neutralise your back arch, but I had no idea why and i could never do it. I had attempted unsuccesfully to straigthen my back against the wall but quickly gave up. I was basically using my back muscles to unwind the large curve that I've had ever since i was a kid. Well, as it turns out, you are supposed to use your abs quite a bit and let some pressure off the back muscles.... I personally had no idea and the more I exercised for my back the more pain I was getting. At some point I completely gave up until I ran into an interesting article on the internet ( http://www.drbookspan.com/AbsArticle.html ). It was what my body was waiting for since I was a kid and nobody could ever helped me. Read it for yourself if you have arch related back problems (or any other posture problems).

You dont have to buy this book in order to get yourself fixed up, the website is just enough. However, out of respect for someone i consider helped me fix my posture, i bought the book. I find the book helpful although I agree with other reviewers that more detailed pictures/drawings in this book describing the exercises would be more helpful. It's hard to do an exercise without somebody supervising you. Most of the times you think you're doing the right thing when you are actually doing to yourself more damage than help.

At this point I think that pretty much anybody with a hunch back can get their posture fixed if not too late. I am 28 and it wasn't not too late for me.

Did I mention that i went to a few chiopractors who provided no real help except for uslessly cracking my back and neck?

1 out of 5 stars the ab revolution   June 21, 2007
i just got this book first of its already falling apart page fell out poorly put together. the lay out DREADFUL.CONFUSING. it appears this writer main purpose was to come up with a lot of verbiage to fill up 118 pages.ok i got it i have bad posture .the exercise are in description form? you have to try to figure out what she is trying to say .when you do get a picture or drawing their is no follow thru before and after.. may be she is a better teach than writer a multi chapter dvd would have been a better ideal K.I.S.S if it didnt cost so much to send back i would .save your money go els wear .

5 out of 5 stars A superb read with important information   June 19, 2005

I bought this book after attending a seminar with this extraordinary lady - more on that in a moment. The book is invaluable to ANYONE who wants to eliminate back-pain immediately. Most of us have been told so many times to "stand up straight, don't slouch" that we do precisely the wrong thing, over-arching and putting strain and stress on our back each and every day. With Dr. Bookspans straightforward, no-nonsense approach, you can instantly modify your posture and the pain/ache in your lower back IS GONE! What is deceptive is how easy this is to accomplish and so on first read, you might not totally grasp the concept. Take your time with the book, try each modification and exercise as she clearly explains it, and give it a try. Your first goal should be to stop the pain, your second to start strengthening your abs and back by retraining your daily habits - and let me tell you, you'll thank her for it. As a 40 year old martial arts instructor with 24 years experience, I was fortunate enough to attend one of her seminars. That's where she really works her magic, face to face. She utilized the concepts in her book to change the way a room full of martial arts instructors and grandmasters live their daily lives. For all of our knowledge and experience, Dr. Bookspan provided a collective epiphany to over 60 veteran martial artists, we were all shaking our heads in amazement and smiling at how good our backs felt. It's practical and it WORKS! To her credit, Dr. Bookspan LIVES her healthy lifestyle philosophy. This book is not very big, nor is Dr. Bookspan - but both are filled with tremendous power and wisdom. Everyone could benefit from the Ab Revolution.

4 out of 5 stars Good information.   October 4, 2004

When I received this book in the mail, I wondered why such a thin book was so expensive. It took several re-readings before I got the main point of the book, which was actually so simple that it was no wonder I missed it the first time. Except for the isometric exercise, most of the other exercises outlined in the book are just too difficult for me, and I don't think I am in such bad shape for my age (45 yr. old female). I also think it would have been a lot better if each exercise had it's own picture or picture series, because it was a bit cumbersome to READ all the explanations of how to do everything. Lots of good information on what works, why, and what doesn't and why. I think this author knows what she is talking about, and I am sure that if I met her in person I would like her because she is so sensible in her approach, but a good book editor could have helped to put it all together in a more readable fashion. This book is worth the read and the effort to extract the important message this author is promoting.
