Product Description
Rita Weiss’s classic, bestselling guide—which sold more than 500,000 copies—has been thoroughly redesigned, completely updated, and made more beautiful and fashionable than ever before.
Think of this as a new book, not just a mere revision of the original 7-Day Afghans. It’s undergone a complete transformation through the addition of full color, with all the patterns rechecked for accuracy and rewritten in an easy-to-follow form. Almost all the original afghans appear, gorgeous as ever, but remade in fashionable, contemporary yarns and shades. Plus, several entirely original designs have been added to enhance the modernization. One look will have knitters and crocheters pulling out their needles, eager to begin. (A “refresher course” will quickly get rusty crafters up to speed.) Make an exquisite Watercolors blanket with fun-to-do cross stitches; a lacy Ice Crystals afghan; Pink Perfection, an easy crochet design that’s perfect for beginners; and other beautiful patterns. The author lives in San Marcos, CA.

Great afghans, there are TWO versions of this book though November 20, 2007 There are two versions of this book, both have great patterns, the original IS an older publication, so the black and white photos and "80's" colors are appropriate to the date of publication, the newer one was done in 2006, and has beautiful color photos by each pattern, the look of the book is clean, the patterns are nice, and look up to date (mostly :-) Personally, since I both knit and crochet, I like to have both kinds of patterns side by side. Currently I am making Orchid Lace, and it is a lovely classic pattern that works up quickly... as are most of the patterns in the book. If you are looking for a good variety of classic, easy afghan patterns this is a great start.
Choose one, knit or crochet. Make sure ALL pictures shown have pattern in the book April 18, 2007 I feel let down with this book, not only because of the outdated look of the afghans, but because it contains patterns for both knitting and crochet. The cover is very deceiving. I bought it for the purpose to get the pattern of ONE afghan shown on the cover. It wasn't even in the book!! I bought the hard cover version and the picture on my book differs slightly that they seemed to have changed the cover to match what's in the book, my copy show a varigated afghan in a wave pattern in the upper left corner. What a ripoff!! ...........there was 20.00 down the drain. I also do not like the fact that the front cover DOES NOT say knit AND crochet. It's fine if you are looking at this book in a store and can SEE you are buying a book with both forms, but online, you can't see the back of the book where it says knit and crochet.
Look past the outdated color combos.... July 11, 2004 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
Yes, the colors in some of these afghans pretty much scream "late 70's early 80's", but if you can look past that and visualize some of these patterns in currently available yarns, there are some gems here. Easy, classic patterns. I crocheted the "Desert Sands" pattern for my 6yo daughter using a bright, rainbow variegated yarn from Red Heart and it came out beautifully, so much so that her younger sister wants a matching one! Some really great patterns here for beginners. Worth having in your pattern library.
A little bit outdated for me December 31, 2002 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
I was excited by the other reviews and bought the book, but I'm dissapointed with the 70's and 80's look of these afghans. The black and white photos do help to picture other color schemes you might like to try after seeing the colors presented in the middle of the book.
Aghans, fast and easy February 3, 2001 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
This is the book I recommend whenever I am asked which one to buy to do "simple" and "fast" afghans. I'd also recommend this book as an important part of anyone's knitting library for the following reason; sometimes you need to make a fast and impressive gift (for a new baby, a house warming, a sick friend.) What is better than a gorgeous afghan in colors you choose to suit your special friend? And afghans don't have to fit anyone. They are also valuable for using up stashes of yarn and for donating to shelters (check first to see your local shelter wants this kind of donation and if they want washable types of yarn.)
