Nothing New June 16, 2008 After seeing Margo's website & having her first book I was expecting a lot more from this book. This one is far more basic then the first book.
Most of the techniques would be better accomplished with a sewing machine rather than a needle felt machine. Many of the items are going to break the expensive needles on one of these machines.
These techniques are all covered in other better books and far more comprehensively, don't waste your money.
Great inspiration! February 13, 2008 This book really gets the creative juices flowing. Even if I don't make any projects that are just like what are in the book, it gives me the desire to stretch my imagination! Her projects are a delight for the eye, and the colors she chooses are so luscious. Yes, the creations are for those people who "think outside the box" and who want to do something out of the ordinary. Just wish that there were many more pages to enjoy! I hope that there will be another book to follow this one from the author.
An excellent guide for beginners new to the ideas February 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Easy machine techniques and projects for needle felting make Margo Duke's Needle-Felting Magic an excellent guide for beginners new to the ideas. Beginning projects teach newcomers about the materials and methods using plenty of color photos and very easy project ideas. Sidebars of 'inside secrets' also guarantee successful results without surprises, making this a top pick for any needlework library.
Too funky January 12, 2008 9 out of 13 found this review helpful
This 32-page book provides you with the basic steps to learn needle felting by machine. It talks about different types of fibers and even has photos so you know what they look like. There is a comparison chart of machines and their features. It talks about dyeing the fibers and different types of fancy techniques such as roses and ribbon fans.
There are five projects - a pin, a picture frame, a journal cover a bag and a scarf. Each project provides all the information needed to complete the project such as a materials list and directions to complete the project. There are even templates if needed.
Unfortunately, none of the projects are ones I would ever make or use. They are too funky or they look like they are extremely well worn and should not be used. I know this type of look is popular right now but I am not a fan of it. If you are into this type of look,
A Couple of Good Ideas December 22, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have been seeking some needle felting books which provide unique ideas. This only partially meets the need. It does discuss various needle felting machine options, both felting specific and sewing machines which have attachments (not all do and those which do are rather costly)which is useful if you are not familiar with them. She talks about dying wool with kool aid which can be fun. Most of the projects are too cutsey. Altho she does have a nice idea for creating a needle felted frame which I expect to try. If you want a small book with some good basic information, this could work. If you are looking for some exciting ideas which either stand alone or can be incorporated into other projects, you should look elsewhere.
