4 out of 5 stars Great book but misnamed!   April 10, 2008

This is a great book for knitters who are trying to improve their skills. I bought it because my finishing skills need to be improved. However, the finishing techniques are not as detailed as I would have liked.
But this book is much more than a finishing book. It is an excellent instruction book for at least intermediate knitters or perhaps someone who just wants to have their projects look a bit more professional.
I have used it again and again. Different ways to increase and decrease are well explained.
I can't give it five stars because the book doesn't really do what it says it does. But I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to improve their knitting.

Gave to my daughter for Christmas and she said it was just what she needed.

4 out of 5 stars Good for your knitting library   February 9, 2008

So far, I have only perused this book, but I can see that it is one of those essential items for your knitting library. I have several knitted articles that I've left unfinished as I waited for this book to arrive, so I can finish them professionally. I have no doubt this book will be a useful resource.

Good information. Some instructions are a little hard to follow, but the pictures aid in that a great deal.

5 out of 5 stars Don't go by the title   November 5, 2007

Okay the worst thing about this book is the title. The book does not really focus on "finishing techniques," but is a great all-round knitting reference book. It's fast becoming my favorite because of the clear directions and illustrations (including really helpful guidance that other books don't make, such as SSP is for the beginning of a row and P2tog is for the end). When I have a question, this is the first place I look. (Then I go to Margaret Radcliffe's book, the the Vogue book, then . . .)

This book is also flat and easy to use with the spiral binding. Definitely portable.
