4 out of 5 stars Probably the best paper dolls around for younger kids   July 13, 2008
Let me start with some things I don't love about this kit. These are ostensibly better for smaller kids than 'regular' paper dolls because there are no fold down tabs that could be frustrating for small hands. Instead there are double sided stickers (you can order more directly from Klutz). I say 'ostensibly' because I'm not entirely sure that the double sided stickers are really that much easier to deal with than the fold down tabs would be. My 4 year old can't really peel the stickies by herself so it's not really something she can play with entirely independently. Plus the stickies get a little messy and are generally sort of iritating to deal with. Another small gripe I have is that the storage compartment for all of the 'stuff' pretty much sucks and is completely inadequate - I solved this rather easily by just labeling small zip lock baggies.

So, why did I give this 4 stars? Well, once you get past these 2 little issues these are some pretty awesome paper dolls! There are 3 boys and 3 girls and more clothes and accessories than I could count! And one of the coolest features is that each item of clothing, shoes, etc is reversible which doubles the possibilities. Also, the backs of the dolls are blank so you could draw on your own features. And since the dolls are so simple it's very easy to make your own little outfits for the dolls. We've already made a few fun fabric dresses. Another fun feature is that there are 3 babies with their own clothes and accessories. The book also includes some fun backgrounds for even more play. All in all for the price this is a really good value and I think offers a great introduction into the world of paper dolls.

5 out of 5 stars Mega pieces! Mega creativity! Mega PATIENCE!   February 13, 2008

Kids of any age (and many adults!) will enjoy playing with this wonderful set of dolls. There are so many options -- especially the flip-sided designs.

However, this extreme variety of pieces is not always a plus for some children who may not have the diligence to work through all the required punching out of items and backing material.

The best advice is to know the patience level of the recipient, and for younger children be aware that your participation is required -- most certainly at first.

Also, prepare ahead for some box or large Ziplock bag to hold The Fabulous Book of Paper Dolls so that none of the precious wardrobe changes go missing.

This item really does live up to its name, and there are hours of entertainment here for you.

5 out of 5 stars Fun with granddaughter   August 9, 2007

This has been my 3 year old granddaughter's favorite thing to do with Grammie. At first she picked out the doll and clothes to use, as I peeled the sticky shapes for her and punched out the clothes. Now that she is almost four, she has mastered peeling the paper off of the sheet to get the sticky shapes of her choice and we now take turns picking out a doll to dress and selecting an outfit, but we always work together. It is so very relaxing getting involved in this activity with her. We love sorting through the many pages of options that this wonderful book has to offer.

1 out of 5 stars paper dolls   May 12, 2007

The dolls were most unattractive. Not at all like the pretty paper dolls I played with when I was a little girl. Not well done.

2 out of 5 stars Not a relaxing project!!   April 15, 2007

As a teacher of young children, I find this book to be extremely labor intensive. There are many, many pieces and you must use sticky tape to apply the clothing. I even had trouble getting the backing off of the tape. I can't imagine doing this for every change of clothing I wanted. By the time you find all the pieces and put all the sticky tabs on, it takes about 10 minutes just to put on one outfit. There are too many choices in this book. Children benefit from simplicity and this book does not offer that.
