Once again Judy Mathieson excels. Her books and patterns are beautifully written and easy to understand. The photographs are perfect additions to her directions. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to try Mariner's Compass'. Her patterns and directions range from relatively simple for those new to the process all the way to complex designs and anywhere in between.
 The only book on Mariner's Compass Quilts you'll ever need. May 20, 2008

I have many, many quilting books in my library, and buy new ones as I can but I doubt I'll ever buy another Mariner's Compass book! This book has it all, from gorgeous photos to clear, concise instructions on all aspects of these stunning quilts including full sizes patterns. Or draft your own patterns with Judy's easy to understand (even for someone who doesn't "do" math" ;-). Highly recommended!

I had a dream and now it is a quilt. I had a mariners compass setting in the back of my head and a mercahnat Manrine as a nieghbor, what a great excuse to make a quilt. with this book my dream finally became a quilt!

I just took a class at the 2007 Houston Quilt Festival w/Judy Mathieson learning the paper piecing technique taught in this book. While tricky and a bit more involved than traditional PP, the results are just as good and you don't have to pick tiny pieces of paper out of your blocks/quilts when you're finished. Judy is a wonderful teacher (take a class when you have the opportunity) and this is truly an advance in paper piecing.

Easy to understand, clear & concise. A very useful tool to be able to draft your own compass or use one of the included pattern pages. Loads of ideas for setting quilts and colour choices.
