Product Description
From Abalone and Abija (a circular African trade bead) to Zen Beads and Zipper Stitch, this lavish glossary contains a goldmine of beading information! Eager beaders will discover an astoundingly broad overview of the subject, with definitions for every entry that cover historical background, technical details, and cultural customs. The topics include tools, materials, bead types and skills, finishes, and even the countries famous for advancing the art. Plus, nearly 500 photographs showcase beads, gemstones, findings, and pieces from around the world. See the many ways beads are worn, woven, strung, decorated, painted, and used for accessories. As a bonus, line drawings illustrate exactly how to work the techniques, and informational charts and graphs help crafters try their hand at creative designing.

4 out of 5 stars Anything about beads at your fingertips   July 30, 2008
If you are a beader, you may know some of the information in this book. The book is a worthy investment of time and money. The sub title, "terms, tips & techniques" says it all.

This book is terrible. The cover looks as though it would have lovely jewelry in it. The book is a glorified dictionary of the different stones available. I sent it back.

5 out of 5 stars very informative   June 22, 2008
This book is like a dictionary. It describes all the pieces used in jewelry making and has pictures and tells you what each piece is used for. It even tells you the chemical composition of the gems. This is my go to book.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent source of information for all things beady!   May 9, 2008
This is not a book you read from cover to cover as most of it is an alphabetical guide. It is a book you dip into and consult for information. I just scanned it on arrival and to my amazement and delight found the very next day that some of the information I had gleaned was extremely useful when selecting material for a project! The material does tend to focus on bead weaving as the author has been taught by Native Americans, but the work does give a good general guide to the wider range of beading.
