Product Description With its gracious homes and tree-lined streets, Ansley Park is one of Atlanta’s most desirable neighborhoods. But in one gleaming mansion, in a teenager’s lavish bedroom, a girl has been savagely murdered. And in the hallway, her horrified mother stands amid shattered glass, having killed her daughter’s attacker with her bare hands. Detective Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is here only to do a political favor; the murder site belongs to the Atlanta police. But Trent soon sees something that the cops are missing, something in the trail of blood, in a matrix of forensic evidence, and in the eyes of the shell-shocked mother. Within minutes, Trent is taking over the case – and adding another one to it. He is sure that another teenage girl is missing, and that a killer is on the loose.
Armed with only fleeting clues, teamed with a female cop who has her own personal reasons for hating him, Trent has enemies all around him – and a gnawing feeling that this case, which started in the best of homes, is cutting quick and deep through the ruins of perfect lives broken wide-open: where human demons emerge with a vengeance.

Brilliant beginning... August 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
...however as the story progresses it all gets a bit ploddy and I found myself losing interest as to whether the mystery is resolved or not.
Special Agent Will Trent and Detective Faith Mitchell are thrown together to unravel this case. Will features in 'Triptych' but in 'Fractured' Karin concentrates more on developing his character, more than one aspect of which is worked nicely in with the story. Both he and Faith are realistically written with interesting histories and mini plots of their own and and I liked their developing work relationship.
The message running through this novel is the importance of families and a feeling that you belong. Some characters having been denied a loving family, others not realising what they have until it's too late.
Whilst the momentum wasn't sustained throughout, it was still an enjoyable read and I'd definitely read the next novel featuring Will and Faith.
Another fine book from Slaughter; with a possibly hidden message? August 11, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
In her second book featuring Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Slaughter weaves a lean, taut tale that far surpasses the previous work featuring Trent -- Triptych -- and introduces a new character in Faith Mitchell; a tough, savvy, smart and aggressive cop who seems destined to continue into future works as Trent's partner.
Slaughter has a real talent for creating fully realized three-dimensional characters, with all the flaws and gifts that make each of them real and believable.
In this case, Trent's battle with dyslexia is explored in depth, and brings a new twist to the genre that is original and inventive, and used to great effect throughout.
It never occurred to me until I started writing this review, but Slaughter made an interesting decision in naming her characters, because in essence, this novel boils down to:
Can Will and Faith defeat Evil?
best book i've read for awhile! August 9, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was totally into this book. it's characters and the story were intense. i was an avid grant county series books by karin. I took it rather personally after the last book when one of the main characters was killed off. Will probably get over it in time for a new grant county series book to come out. But, i really enjoyed this book. I thought it was much better than triptych which i thought was just ok.
Karin does it again! August 8, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am an avid Karin Slaughter fan. I love the Grant County series, but I must say I love the direction that she is going with the new series she has created. The storyline for this novel was terrific, the characters, some of which appeared in Triptych are complex and interesting. This was a fast read, I didn't want to put it down. Lots of suprises! Can't wait for her next one!
Page turner August 7, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Never disappointing, Karin Slaughter writes a fine thriller. Her characters are the kinds of folks you might expect in the situations she creates, and they're human and believable.
FRACTURED was hard to put down, even when dinner needed to be prepared.
