Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
It is a little known fact that Shakespeare was the greatest baseball writer the game has ever know. Here the words of the famous bard are offered as insight into the great American pastime. The depth of heartbreak at baseball's upsets, and the triumph of its victories will entertain voracious baseball buffs and Shakespeare fans alike. Here is David Goodnough's novel approach to both Shakespeare and baseball. Wonderfully illustrated; this book will be an appreciated gift!

4 out of 5 stars WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT?   March 21, 2001

WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE WOULD TURN OUT TO BE THE GREATEST BASEBALL WRITER OF ALL TIME (WITH APOLOGIES TO SHIRLEY POVICH)? NOT BAD FOR SOMEONE WHO WAS LONG DEAD BY THE TIME IT WAS INVENTED. HE HAS WRITTEN A LITTLE SOMETHING TO COVER JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING IN BASEBALL TO INCLUDE THE DH, INTERLEAGUE PLAY, FREE AGENCY, EXPANSION TEAMS, AND CERTAIN PLAYERS (AND THEIR RECORDS). WHY ONLY 4 STARS? SOMEBODY NEEDS TO PROOFREAD (OR SPELLCHECK) A LITTLE BETTER. CASEY STENGEL'S NAME IS SPELLED RIGHT ON ONE PAGE AND MISSPELLED ON THE VERY NEXT (ALSO SOME DATES CHANGE YEARS). MINOR STUFF FOR A MAJOR LEAGUE BOOK FOR TRUE BASEBALL FANS. MY FAVORITE? (PROTESTING MANAGER APPROACHES UMPIRE) HERE WILL BE AN OLD ABUSING OF GOD'S PATIENCE AND THE KING'S ENGLISH (THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR, I.iv). KUDOS TO DAVID GOODNOUGH.

5 out of 5 stars Giving an extra spin for baseball fans   April 5, 2000

This delightful book gives a rare glimpse into the mind of Shakespeare and how he might have interpreted our favorite national pastime. Filled with a plethora of pithy Shakespearean quotes, fans of baseball and the bard won't be able to resist this fabulous coupling of wit with hits. A pure home run!
