Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The fourth edition of the classic volume Ethical Conflicts in Psychology, a perennial best seller, describes the fundamental ethical dilemmas embedded in the psychologist's array of roles--assessor, treater, and researcher. The author updates readers on such complex issues as the duty-to-protect, multiple relationships, privacy, privileged communication, and the treatment of minors and clients with HIV/AIDS, particularly with regard to confidentiality. More than 20 articles published since 2003, and additional commentaries, have been added on topics such as performing assessments, providing therapy, and conducting research on the Internet; navigating the federal regulations governing the transmission of health care records electronically under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); responding to requests for "raw data" from parents, insurers, and attorneys; testifying as an expert witness; becoming involved in military interrogations; and practicing ethically under the boundaries of managed care. Material has been excerpted from a wide variety of publications to illuminate the most salient points related to ethics. Excerpts are linked to original commentary that highlights opposing viewpoints, poses lively discussion questions, offers numerous vignettes, and suggests additional readings.

3 out of 5 stars Ethics   January 2, 2008

I'm not a big fan of this book as I have read other texts that are more concise than this one. Parts of the text has useful information but I would not highly suggest this text if it is not required for a course.

5 out of 5 stars the source book for psychological ethics   March 26, 2006

i attended a forensic psychology ethics workshop conducted by dr. bersoff, which propelled me to reading his book that had gathered dust on my shelf this past year. the book was edited by bersoff, a former board member and legal counsel of the APA. chapter authors read like a who's who in the field. the content is well-organized. the book is quite readable. they re-print and discuss the APA ethics code, guidelines, ethical issues and laws fairly extensively. i'd love to see applied research on ethical decision making. outstanding resource

5 out of 5 stars Informative, thought-provoking book   September 24, 2005

i bought this book for a graduate school class in ethics for psychologists and found it to be extremely thought-provoking and informative. the ethical guidelines are discussed in an easy-to-understand format, and numerous case examples are provided that really make you think about where you stand on various issues facing mental health practitioners. highly recommended reading--excellent for someone just starting in the field and a great refresher for those who have been practicing for awhile.
