Editorial Reviews:

Product Description

The Pep Talk is a sports story-with solid business applications-about an underdog football team defeating a formidable opponent. Typically, a novelette of this type peaks at the end of the game, but it's in the pep talk where the real story begins.

A stranger convinces the coach of a team with a 24-game losing streak to allow him to give a pep talk before they go up against a winning team. The underdog team is victorious because of the influence of this stranger. The pep talk and the actual game are intriguing, but the real story begins 29 years later when the coach, suffering from a brain tumor, discovers the stranger had prophesized specific events that occurred in the ensuing game. Is there a logical explanation? Is there a spiritual explanation? The answers to these questions capture the reader's attention to the very end.

The Pep Talk was filled with nuggets of truth that you can take with you and use in your job, philanthropy, hobby, or whatever you are engaged in. It brought me back to some of the invaluable lessons I learned when playing football and other sports in high school.

5 out of 5 stars THE PEP TALK Winninig in Life and Business   July 3, 2008

Dr. Kevin Elko and Bob Shook will become household names with this book. The message is simple and the implementation is easier. The Pep Talk like Suzann's Diary for Nicholas, The One Minute Manager and Raving Fans have the ingredients to give the reader a better perspective for every aspect of your life. It is a one sitting read that will make you feel good, look at every underdog and give them a chance and encourage you to accomplish your next endeavor no matter how outrageaous.
It is also a book that you will want to share with family and friends young and old.

5 out of 5 stars The Pep Talk - An Outstanding Message   May 15, 2008

I have been a fan of Dr. Elko for many years and have seen him present dozens of times and his work always helps me understand what's important and how I can make my life more fulfilling. I am amazed at the way Dr. Elko and Robert Shook have taken the various principles and components of Dr. Elko's core message and masterfully constructed a storyline that really makes "The Pep Talk" a must read. The book shows how a single person or message can not only inspire you at that moment, but also have a profound impact on the way you live your life and the level of success you achieve! Great book and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I picked up The Pep Talk, intending to read it on vacation. But I took a peek and couldn't put it down. Its a riveting story, well told, and it gets across its inspirational message without spoiling a darn good tale. Even if one isn't a sports fan, its impossible not to get involved with the high school team that never won a game until it got 'the Pep Talk.'

5 out of 5 stars The Pep Talk   May 8, 2008

I have just finished reading "The Pep Talk"...for the second time. I have heard Dr. Elko speak on numerous occassions to athletes and could sit and listen to him for hours. After reading his first book, "Nerves of Steel" I knew The Pep Talk would be great and I am not disappointed. The authors way of getting his message across is extremely effective. He speaks in terms that make clear and concise sense as well as humerous but memorable anecdotes. He will teach you to think differently which will cause you to act differently which affects everyone around you. Whether you are a high level athlete, a CEO or a stay at home parent this book will touch you, teach you and motivate you. Dr. Elko speaks of having a vision, and how to attain that vision and to maintain that vision. In today's society negativity is too prevelant, you will not allow yourself to get caught up in it if you heed the advice presented. I have given my copy to my wife and when I get it back I will read it again. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to improve ANY aspect of their life or those around you.
