Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The Dayton Air Show: A Photographic Celebration is a stunning collection of more than 200 gorgeous photographs from more than 21 years of what is now titled the Vectren Dayton Air Show Presented by Kroger. Ty Greenlees and Timothy R. Gaffney covered the air show together over those years as newspaper journalists. Now they have distilled their years of coverage into this beautiful keepsake volume. With film and later digital cameras, Greenlees has captured the Thunderbirds, Blue Angels, military jet demonstrations, warbirds, civilian performers, parachutists, rotary wing aircraft, and more often from the air. Gaffney explains how the air show reflects the regions aviation heritage and showcases the aerospace work that continues across the region today.

5 out of 5 stars A highly recommended addition for aircraft enthusiasts   September 6, 2008
The Airplane, despite being 105 years old, is still a marvel and fascination to many. "Dayton Air Show: A Photographic Celebration" is a photographic look at Dayton Ohio's treasured air show. From the first show in 1910 featuring the inventors in the Wright Brothers, to the modern incarnation where families bring their children to marvel art the skills of the pilots and their aircraft, "Dayton Air Show" is packed from cover to cover with full color photographs and informative writing, a must for any air enthusiast. A highly recommended addition for aircraft enthusiasts, as well as both academic and community library Aviation History reference collections.

3 out of 5 stars Many nice photos   September 2, 2008
I like aviation photography, and I bought this as a "coffee-table" kind of book, expecting stunning, razor-sharp, colorful shots of the terrific aircraft that Dayton has hosted over the years. There were some nice photos, but I was a little disappointed that so many of them were of mediocre quality (low-contrast, muted colors with no detail in the shadows and several were fuzzy and grainy with a few actually out-of-focus...e.g., the close-up of the propeller in the introduction and the B-2 on page 43).

I have seen other shots by this photographer that were sharp, with interesting angles of planes and crew, so I know he is capable of top-quality aviation photography, but that wasn't the norm for this book. (I suspect the photographer didn't have the final say in image selection and may have been mortified by the photos that were chosen to illustrate the text.)

The book has good one- to four-sentence overviews of the aircraft that are part of the Dayton scene (it is definitely not an in-depth guide on aircraft or pilots) and is a fun and interesting, quick read.

I recommend you buy this book if you want to get a feel of what to expect at Dayton, but definitely do not buy this if you are looking for great airshow photos.

5 out of 5 stars Dayton Air Show   July 23, 2008
As soon as I heard about this book I picked up my copy here on Amazon. I am familiar with Ty Greenlees' photography, and having attended the Dayton Air Show throughout the 1990's this book was a must have for me. As soon as I took it out of the box I realized I had made a wise choice. This book is beautifully designed, well written, and is filled with fantastic photography from the past 20 or so years of the Dayton Air Show.

The book is well organized by theme ("Warbirds", "Military jets", "Blue Angels", "Thunderbirds", etc.) and I can't say enough about the design of the book.....each page has it's own unique page layout that helps the viewer flow easily from one photograph to the next.

If you have ever attended an air show, or are just a fan of aviation this book is a must have for you.....trust me, this book will be one of the treasures in your collection!
