Product Description
In this thoroughly researched and documented book, the #1 New York Times bestselling co-author of Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry explains why the extreme leftism of an Obama presidency would leave the United States weakened, diminished and divided, why Obama must be defeated—and how he can be. THE OBAMA NATION Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality Barack Obama stepped onto the national political stage when the then-Illinois State senator addressed the 2004 Democratic National Convention. Soon after Obama was elected to the U.S. Senate, author Jerome Corsi began researching Obama's personal and political background. Scrupulously sourced with more than 600 footnotes, THE OBAMA NATION is the result of that research. By tracing Obama's career and influences from his early years in Hawaii and Indonesia, the beginnings of his political career in Chicago, his voting record in the Illinois legislature, his religious training and his adoption of Christianity through to his recent involvement in Kenyan politics, his political advisors and fundraising associates and his meteoric campaign for president, Jerome Corsi shows that an Obama presidency would, in his words, be “a repeat of the failed extremist politics that have characterized and plagued Democratic Party politics since the late 1960s.” In this stunning and comprehensive new book, the reader will learn about: -Obama's extensive connections with Islam and radical politics, from his father and step-father's Islamic backgrounds, to his Communist and socialist mentors in Hawaii and Chicago, to his long-term and close associations with former Weather Underground heroes William Ayers and Bernadette Dohrn—associations much closer than heretofore revealed by the press -Barack and Michelle's 20-year-long religious affiliation with the black-liberation theology of former Trinity United Church of Christ Reverend Jeremiah Wright, whose sermons have always been steeped in a rage first expressed by Franz Fanon , Stokely Carmichael and Malcolm X, a rage that Corsi shows has deep meaning for Obama -Obama's continuing connections with Kenya, the homeland of his father, through his support for the candidacy of Raila Odinga, the radical socialist presidential contender who came to power amid Islamist violence and church burnings -Obama's involvement in the slum-landlord empire of the Chicago political fixer Tony Rezko, who helped to bankroll Obama's initial campaigns and to purchase of Barack and Michelle's dream-home property. -the background and techniques of the Obama campaign's cult of personality, including the derivation of the words “hope” and change” -Obama's far-left domestic policy, his controversial votes on abortion, his history of opposition to the Second Amendment, his determination to raise capital-gains taxes, his impractical plan to achieve universal health care, and his radical plan to tax Americans to fund a global-poverty-reduction program -Obama's naive, anti-war, anti-nuclear foreign-policy, predicated on the reduction of the military, the eradication of nuclear weapons and an overconfidence in the power of his personality, as if belief in change alone could somehow transform international politics, achieve nuclear-weapons disarmament and withdrawal from Iraq without adverse consequences, for us, for the Iraqis or for Israel. Meticulously researched and documented, THE OBAMA NATION is the definitive source for information on why and how Barack Obama must be defeated—not by invective and general attacks, but by detailed arguments that are well-researched and fact-based.

Pure Trash August 20, 2008 Of course this book was chosen for publication by Mary Matelin, the GOP's number one female pit bull. That small fact seems to have escaped attention. Anyone wanting to reinforce their misconceptions about this candidate would do well to read this book. It is just one more example of the lies and innuendos that have so poisoned the minds of the American electorate. Political blather at it's very worst. How embarassing that as a country we do not insist on a level of honesty and decency in our political campaigns. It is no wonder we are the laughing stock of the world. Maybe we should stick to training swimmers.
A total disappointment August 20, 2008 I wanted to give this book a chance since it's such a popular topic of discussion and is selling so well. Well, I've since found that the sales numbers are due to bulk selling to conservative organizations (similar to how the Scientologists kept Dianetics on the best-sellers list for so long), and I'm deeply disappointed in how poorly done this book really is.
This book has the characteristics of a publication hastily thrown together for election time, filled with inaccuracies, innuendo, and outright falsehoods. Corsi makes many claims about the content of Obama's books, when a cursory review of those books shows Corsi to be dead wrong. Most of these errors seem like major slips by someone who simply skimmed the writings. Additionally, he takes the facts he actually gets right to "ask questions," or more accurately to spread innuendo. For example, Obama has mentioned his drug use as a youth many times. Corsi takes this fact to "ask the question" of whether Obama has ever stopped using drugs. When he made a point to note that Obama's mother married not one, but TWO "men of color" (gasp!), I knew I wasn't going to make it all the way through this book. (One actual quote --- "The sexual attraction of his mother to her African husband jumps out from the page.") A look at the research endnotes of this book show references to his own previous books, blogs, and disreputable far-right websites. Any author should be ashamed to rely on such sources for their "facts."
We must remember the type of author we're dealing with, though. Jerome Corsi is an anti-Catholic, far-right fringe conservative who espouses many conspiracy theories. Some of his more interesting conspiracy theories are that the Twin Towers were a controlled demolition, and that George W. Bush has been trying to eliminate the Mexican border to create a secret "North American Union." He tried to become the Constitution Party's 2008 Presidential candidate, but gave up early on. In March of 2008, he reported that a "Muslim terrorist group with ties to criminal drug networks and al-Qaida" has given "strong support" to John McCain. Oh, and Corsi appeared as a guest on a white supremecist radio show in July of 2008, and was scheduled to appear again on August 17th. He's an enemy to all rational Americans, be they conservative or liberal. Is this someone you want to get your facts from? Sure, he has a PhD from Harvard, but remember that Ted Kaczyinski was a Harvard grad with a PhD.
Overall, this book is a quickly compiled, poorly written smear. Corsi admits his goal is to keep Obama out of office. That's fine, but he should take a note from more responsible conservative writers. This will appeal to a small number of anti-Obama Americans who won't let the truth get in the way of their beliefs, but otherwise it's supermarket tabloid level writing. I would recommend almost ANY of the other books about Obama over this one. Many conservative comentators are condemning this book for a reason.
A true abomination August 20, 2008 This book--and others like it on the left and the right--is a painful reminder of the state of our political process. Reading this book and the reviews here seems to lead to the inevitable conclusion that there can be no common ground between people who have different views about the issues that face us. That is because, beyond the countless factual errors and faux-documentation, this book is deeply cynical and openly appeals to suspiciousness and distrust. It is these attitudes and feelings--promoted by those on both sides of the political spectrum--that have paralyzed our political process and make it so difficult to reach sensible compromises that would enable us to make progress on issues like health care, climate change, tax policy, and the like. If we do not wake up to the damage that this cynicism is doing to our dialog and our ability to work together in good faith, the large problems that face our nation and the world may well destroy us. Because this book fuels this disease that prevents us from having reasoned and reasonable dialog, we must reject it as a true abomination.
Proved to be Mostly Factual and In depth August 20, 2008 I read Obama Nation as well as the 41 page rebuttal that Obama's people posted. Overall, I find the book mostly accurate and well written. The rebuttal mostly dealt with very minor typos and misrepresented Corsi's work.
For example, the rebuttal showed a quote that linked Obama to his Muslim heritage; one may think Corsi is trying to insinuate that Obama is a Muslim, but Corsi---several times---made it clear he didn't think Obama was a Muslim. The quote, like many, was Corsi's attempt to give the reader a better understanding of Obama's childhood; These facts were not critical to Obama, they read like a biography with a matter-of-fact tone. Obviously, the rebuttal was insinuating Corsi was a racist, as it did towards the end.
Another example of the rebuttal failing was with Bill Ayers. Ayers is undoubtedly an issue for Obama and one that was brought up several times in the democratic nomination. The rebuttal included quotes of how important Ayers is to the Chicago community. If Obama said that himself, it would be political suicide. Ayers is a terrorist and a radical by all means... Obama can only benefit from distancing himself from him. When Obama learned that one of his advisers met with Hamas, he didn't tell people how great Hamas is... obviously the individuals writing this rebuttal are banking on the fact you don't know who Bill Ayers is. Furthermore, the rebuttal also pointed out Ayers comment of "wishing he done more" was before 9/11, not after 9/11 (the NYT reported it after 9/11... Corsi said the comment was after 9/11). Is this REALLY a point you want to make? The fact he said he wished he did more (bomb more federal buildings) before or after 9/11 is irrelevant ..... Americans will find it abhorrent.
This isn't to say that all of Corsi factoids are important and incredibly relevant. In fact, he includes a lot of biographic information about Obama that is neither interesting nor critical. But Corsi throughout the book was very direct in his thought process (he highlighted what facts gave him what impressions) allowing you to critique his own conclusion based on the facts. Furthermore, he distinguished between sources. This openness allows one to judge very quickly how reliable the information is.
Acutally bought the book and Finished It! August 20, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is an excellent book, full of factoids that are even today being confirmed by "Barry" and his campaign.
The Best part is what the libs can't stand, the stunning analysis of his voting record, (which is not a lie as the votes are recorded) something which the MSM should be doing, but isn't. Gun Control, Abortion, Foreign affairs and several other topics are laid out for the reader to gain insight into a person who seeks the highest office in the land, but who is thoroughly out of his depth and has a very twisted socialist perspective. Excellent footnotes.
