Product Description Olympic gymnast Nadia Comaneci is profiled in this heart-warming family film. Nadia began training competitively at the age of six with the now world-famous coach Bela Karolyi and his wife Marta. At fourteen she became the first Olympic gymnast to score a perfect 10 and walked away with five gold medals two silver medals and one bronze at the 1976 Olympics. The petite gymnast from Romania was now an overnight media sensation inspiring a whole new generation of future Nadias. But fame came with a high price. As Nadia grew into a young woman she struggled with isolation weight gain that threatened her career and that fear of exceeding increasingly high standards.NADIA captures the hard work and determination of a young girl driven to success. The film stars Oscar nominee Carrie Snodgrass (Diary of A Mad Housewife) Talia Balsam (Without A Trace) two-time Emmy nominee Conchata Ferrell and Johann Carlo (Quiz Show).System Requirements:Run Time: 90 minsFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: DRAMA Rating: NR UPC: 030306778495 Manufacturer No: DVD7784
Amazon.com The first gymnast to ever score a perfect 10 at the Olympics was Nadia Comaneci. From a small town in Romania, Nadia (Leslie Weiner, in her only feature film role) rose to international stardom. Under the coaching guidance of Bela Karoli, she pushed herself with the will of a champion. This movie does a wonderful job of showing how hard gymnasts must work as well as showing how much they must give up in their personal lives in order to achieve success. After winning three gold medals at the 1976 Olympics, her life spins out of control when Bela is removed as her coach. For the first time in her life she is on her own, she is the object of jealousy from her teammates, and her weight is out of control. She seeks out her former coach and asks for his help. Together they put Nadia back on the winning track. A family film with a lot to offer, Nadia shows in a credible way the highs and lows of celebrity. The gymnastics portions are terrific. A must if there's a budding gymnast or gymnastic enthusiast in your home. Made in 1984 for television. (Ages 5 to adult) --Peggy Maltby-Etra

Interesante June 4, 2008 El problema es que su realizacion es muy pobre, carece de menu, no trae bonus, ni subtitulos, ni otros idiomas, esta hecho a la rapida pero la pelicula es entranable.
Excellent movie May 12, 2008 It is a very good movie of Nadia, since there is not much available about her life, this one is a good option, my kids (6 & 8) liked a lot and feel enthusiastic again about her gymnastic class.
nadia March 15, 2008 My wife was very happy with the movie as she watched it repeatedly when she was a youngster. She was pleased to now have it on dvd.
Touching yet Hysterical : A Warped, Enjoyable Nadia February 20, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My brother and I recorded this off TV in the early '90s, and much of our childhood was peppered with bits of inspired dialog from this 'gem' of a movie. Granted, it isn't really a movie. In fact, it was initially aired as a multi-part miniseries. And time has not been kind to it.
Despite that, this remains the definitive Nadia film. Why? The performances, and the brisk, crisp direction. It has TV movie written all over it, and the second half of the film is horribly cast (the actress playing Nadia looks nothing like her, and doesn't know anything about gymnastics either. She barely manages to even pose right), but it is charming and refreshing in its' portrayal of the young Nadia and her best friend Theodora Unguriyanu.
The 'perfect 10' that Nadia scored at the Olympics is reduced to slo-mo editing here, and her performance at the Montreal Olympics looks stilted and way too dramatic. Also Bela Karolyi is portrayed as this sinister egotist. Whether or not this is true, I don't know - but it stuck out in this movie. However, there are many sweet and tender moments within this film that make it well worth a buy. I've watched it many times myself, though its been years that I last saw it - and would still highly recommend this lost treasure.
Good, but not DVD-quality video February 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was dissappointed they didn't take the time to scrub the video before putting it on DVD. It is likely not much better than what you would find on a VHS tape, although the entire (uncut) movie is there -- and thats what I care most about.
