Product Description While everything appears to be collapsing around us -- ecodamage, genetic engineering, virulent diseases, the end of cheap oil, water shortages, global famine, wars -- we can still do something about it and create a world that will work for us and for our children’s children. The inspiration for Leonardo DiCaprio’s web movie Global Warning, The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight details what is happening to our planet, the reasons for our culture’s blind behavior, and how we can fix the problem. Thom Hartmann’s comprehensive book, originally published in 1998, has become one of the fundamental handbooks of the environmental activist movement. Now, with fresh, updated material and a focus on political activism and its effect on corporate behavior, The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight helps us understand--and heal--our relationship to the world, to each other, and to our natural resources.

Everyone Should Read This Book May 8, 2008 This book is mind expanding! A very important read for anyone interested in an over arching explanation of the world today and how we got here in terms of the history of civilization. The research is excellent, the book moves logically and smoothly- - I would even call it a page-turner. And I plan to buy a copy for all of my friends! Highly recommended.
A wake up call April 29, 2008 This book does a great job of presenting our global predicament - it does this in a very stark and urgent way, leaving no doubt of the terrible future we have in store if we do not rapidly change our course. It makes the absurdity and madness of human beings' behaviour completely clear. Where I feel the book comes up short is in its analysis of why this terrible predicament has come about, and what we can do to avert it - it doesn't really go deep enough. Steve Taylor's book The Fall covers similar ground but in a more thorough way, looking into the psychological roots of our predicament and at the psychological which has to occur - and is occuring as an evolutionary process - if we are to survive. The Fall: The Evidence for a Golden Age, 6,000 years of Insanity and the Dawning of a New Era
some facts, some blue sky March 10, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book has a seductive title, and the author takes one through countless examples of the sun actually being a great source of energy. the author depends on trite phrases rather than science to make or prove his assertions. Enjoyable reading because of a quick and exciting style, but lacking in substance. I get sick of phrases like..."some scientists say"..and "many experts agree".....the question is who agrees and when did they agree? A stopped clock is right twice a day, as one of my old Yale professors did say. So too with this book. Thanks you for the opportunity to express my opinion.
