Zecharia Sitchen's The 12th Planet is the starting point on a quest that spans six books and 20 years worth of ancient aliens, genetic manipulation, and scrutiny of linguistic minutiae. If we trust Sitchen's translation abilities, we must be prepared for the imminent return of an alien race who created us some 300,0x00 years ago. The 12th Planet is perhaps the best written of Sitchin's Earth Chronicles series; full of example after example of ancient Sumerian passages, astronomical observations, archaeological finds, and technological coincidences supporting his theories. The price we pay for all this evidence is a bit of a dry read at times, but the ideas Sitchin proposes are more than scintillating enough to make up for the overtly scholastic tone of his text. --Brian Patterson

Product Description

Over the years, startling evidence has been uncovered, challenging established notions of the origins of life on Earth—evidence that suggests the existence of an advanced group of extraterrestrials who once inhabited our world.

The first book of the revolutionary Earth Chronicles series offers indisputable documentary evidence of the existence of the mysterious planet Nibiru and tells why its astronauts came to Earth eons ago to fashion mankind in their image.

The product of more than thirty years of meticulous research, The 12th Planet treats as fact, not myth, the tales of Creation, the Deluge, the Tower of Babel, and the Nefilim who married the daughters of man. By weaving together the biblical narrative with Sumerian and Babylonian clay-tablet texts, it challenges the established notions of the origins of Earth and mankind, and offers a compelling alternative history and prehistory of both.

5 out of 5 stars Great book   July 17, 2008
This is an excellent book. It is very indept. It is hard to put down, but can also overload your brain.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanting   July 11, 2008
Don't let the bad publicity against Mr. Sitchin influence your mind.
Many jealous people and especially failed writers hate him.
We all understand that.
There is a person in America who asked the authorities to put him in jail.
Crazy!
Only in America people massacre others with dirty words,
personality assassination and personal hatred. What they do?
They are incapable of writing successful books
so they began to throw dirt from their mouth
and snake-style criticism.

Mr. Sitchin is a remarkable writer.

Respected all over the world.

I collect all his books.

S. Mahdi, Cairo, Egypt.

2 out of 5 stars LINDE   July 6, 2008
An interesting but speculative view of galactic/planetary history. I found it extreamly long winded and tedious reading.

5 out of 5 stars Pioneering Work!!   May 3, 2008
Consider Dr. Sitchin the godfather of alternative archeology. He dares to explore the impossible, the mystique, the risque, the controvesial and he put his spin on it with a powerful intellect and a perfect luingistic command. His books are spatial-historical encyclopedias and you will enjoy this book. A rich variety of topics from the very depth of ancient history brought back to us under a new scientific microscope. Really fascinating journey. Read it!

3 out of 5 stars Stimulating but Frustrating   April 14, 2008
Ancient Sumeria is without doubt one of the most neglected areas of historical research. In schools, it is merely glossed over. Yet the evidence that Sumeria was the foundation of today's civilization is overwhelming.

The reasons for this are probably connected to scholarly discomfort at what we have actually discovered about Sumeria. In other words, it doesn't fit our cherished presuppositions - theological, cosmological, anthropological, ethnological, scientific, and artistic. Enter Sitchin to stir things up.

Although he is much more of a scholar than Erich Von Daniken, Sitchin's premise of astronaut extraterrestrials who created humankind thru genetic manipulation, clearly benefitted from the earlier groundwork laid by Chariots of The Gods et al.

No matter how many times I read over his paragraphs, Sitchin only reads or translates the ancient texts as though they were courtoom depositions. Dry facts only. This is so patently absurd that it undermines the credibility of his thesis. So ancient scribes did not use metaphor, allusion, or symbol to express their message.

So rather than attempting to decipher the symbolism, Sitchin interprets all of it literally. Likewise, the biblical texts. Or at least, the texts that he selects - the ones that fit.
