Product Description
From 1804 to 1815, more than 1400 officers served in the most powerful branch of the French Napoleonic cavalry, the cuirassiers. From the younger second lieutenant to the major general, all fought with gallantry in these elite regiments. The result of many years of seeking and investigations, this detailed work shows these officers 'career, packed with portraits, records in battles and heraldry.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars 5 Stars are not nearly enough - easily deserves 10++   August 28, 2008
This book far exceeded my expectations. I had thought it would be little more than a listing of facts and dates for the officers of Napoleon's cuirassier regiments; in fact the book is full of very detailed information about each regiment including many beautiful photographs of uniform details and equipment, many drawings providing further information about the regimental distinctions and reproductions of many historical works of art by Rousselot, Meissonnier and others. Virtually every page contains something in the way of "eye candy". Plus you get all of the service record data regarding each officer A-Z and in many cases the coat of arms awarded when they were elevated into the nobility. There are also photos of orders and other documents signed by a number of the officers.

The book is simply beautiful, exceedingly well organized, printed on heavy glossy paper and an absolute steal for the price. Every serious student of the period really has to have one of these books in his/her library. For me, the work really brings these most elite of Napoleon's mounted arm to life as real people.

5 out of 5 stars Superb Book   July 18, 2008

This a superb large format on Napoleon's Cuirassiers Officers. The large majority of the writing is indeed short biographies for 2LTs to Generals. very factual and mildly colorless..yet taken as a whole, the bios do indeed give you a unique perspective on Napoleon's heavy Cavalry. The clear/crisp art work is sewn throughout the book..and will remove your soxs. Many rarely seen images and of course the classic views. Some very limited information on equipment and tactics is included in the book. I do wish more was included on the artwork and the unit histories...but this was not the intent of this magnificent book.
