A book you will enjoy a lot November 20, 2005 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
In the foreword, Billie Jean King writes, "You Can Quote Me on That" contains hundreds of funny, informative, and provocative quotes by and about present and past stars on 35 different topics. No one and nothing is spared." I agree completely! I'm a big tennis fan, and I had never heard or read 80 percent of these quotes before. For example in "The Fame Game" chapter, I loved Patrick Rafter's quote on the paradox of fame -- "When you haven't got it, you really want it; when you have it, you really don't want it." In "The Ego Has Landed" chapter, the late Vitas Gerulaitis, a legendary playboy, bragged, "If I did as well on the court as I do off the court, I'd be No. 1 by now." Talk about bad predictions. After 17-year-old Chrissie Evert reached the 1972 U.S. Open semifinals, Billie Jean King criticized her two-handed backhand, saying "It shouldn't be taught to kids. The trouble with it is that it establishes a weakness." Hey, tell that to Jimmy Connors, Bjorn Borg, Monica Seles and Andre Agassi. This is definitely a fascinating book. Get it for yourself and your tennis friends. They'll really appreciate it.
A Great Read full of smart and fun quotes September 17, 2005 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
- Ever wondered what many of Tennis Great Players actually talk like? Well, after reading this book, you'll know it all.
It's the type of book that at first you may underestimate. However, after the quick flicking through pages turns into real reading and the ndoubtably memorizing of quotes, you understand that you are having fun while gaining insight as to the minds of Tennis Champions from the present and the past.
Enjoy! But be prepared: You will be spending more time reading and re-reading this book than you ever expected.
A Great Book!! Not Just for Tennis Fans August 18, 2005 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have read many of Paul Fein's tennis articles and read his last book, "Tennis Confidential." Paul is an excellent writer who puts a lot of effort in everything he writes. His latest book "You Can Quote Me On That," relates the history of tennis, including today's game. I love quotes of all kinds so, of course, I was interested in this book. It is funny, interesting, and very informative. This is a great book and a great read for anyone...not just tennis fans.
