A Good Refernce Manual April 26, 2008 This is more of a reference book than a sit-down-and-read-through book. It provides proper formatting for footnotes, in-text citations, and bibliography, and gives some guides for planning, structuring, and writing papers. If you're looking for a book that is a little better for how to craft arguments and progress through a paper logically, "The Craft of Research" is better for those reasons. Still, this is a convenient book to have on the shelf for reference, especially with proper citation.
Improvement over last excellent edition April 13, 2008 The latest edition of this useful manual is a further improvment over the last edition. It is easier to find information and has additional information that is very helpful.
User-friendly manual for the best, most flexible reference style April 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I can't compare this edition to the previous ones as I've never owned the old ones but I can say this manual is very user-friendly. I bought it only seeking a comprehensive manual of style for a bibliography/referencing, which it has. But I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it has very useful information about how to tackle the research process as well. The manual is extremely comprehensive without being confusing. The aesthetics are great. Also, the Chicago manual style is better than APA and MLA in my opinion, and I've used them all. A good tool for budding researchers and students alike.
Footnotes, footnotes March 15, 2008 My traditionalist professor requires that a. we buy this book and b. we use footnotes. The newest edition of the book is much updated and helpful with using new technologies and, wonder of wonders, makes footnotes optional in favor of other forms of citation. My professor still doesn't, though.
A Manual for Writers of Research Papers, Theses, and Dissertations, Seventh Edition: Chicago Style for Students and Researchers March 11, 2008 My promotor gave this book to me when I got stuck with writing my dissertation. I wish I had read this book earlier! Why didn't my professors tell me this before? This book makes studying fun, because you learn more from the material you study. This book really helps you to structurize your research and write in a clear and proper way. And also a good manual that you will go back to time and time again for detailed help. I just even bought a second copy of this book for my son and have recommended it to other scolars.
