Chop wood, carry water - Read book, swing club January 14, 2008 I am savoring this book. Its anecdotes are memorable; its wisdom, delivered with the grace of wind on grass. I find myself revisiting various lines, as if remembering a favorite course on a favorite day. Quite simply, it opens the eyes to the fact that they are open. And that can't hurt - on or off the course!
Golf's Three Noble Truths: The Fine Art of Playing Awake October 23, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Simply the most profound and enlightening book I have read about the experience of playing golf. I have been playing the game for over thirty years without much success and I now realize that I was really not paying attention to what I was doing! While this may seem elementary to some, most golfers suffer from this malady. As the book points out, handicaps remain constant as a rule, over the course of most golfers playing days. Thank you Jim, for bringing the concepts of Awareness, Balance and Unity to light for me. I now enjoy the privilege of playing golf regardless of my score! And that my friend is a beautiful thing to do. Clark
This is a golf book for those who enjoy playing golf more than just competing at golf August 19, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I enjoyed the easy to read aspect of this book. The author writes as if he is sitting next to you on the tee box bench, helping you to enjoy the experience of the links. After a few good (short)examples comparing the golf experience to Eastern philosophy, the two of you tee off (the chapter ends). Turn the page, and you're at the next tee, with more wisdom. This book may help you swing better, but it will help you appreciate your time on the course, and integrate it with making you experience life more fully.
Avid players will want to consider this alternative thought on improving their game. August 6, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
James Ragonnet has spent three decades analyzing the game of golf, so any collection strong in golfing history will find his GOLF'S THREE NOBLE TRUTHS: THE FINE ART OF PLAYING AWAKE a fine addition, applying classic teachings of the Buddha to the game. Also recommended for new age and spirituality collections, GOLF'S THREE NOBLE TRUTHS is featured here under sports because sports collections will find it to be a different kind of addition - and something beyond the ordinary. Golfers can best grow their sport by 'playing awake' and utilizing methods and awareness exercises from Buddhist notions. Avid players will want to consider this alternative thought on improving their game.
The Ultimate Golf Book - The Ultimate Gift July 23, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I recently read Dr. James Ragonnet's new book THE THREE NOBLE TRUTH'S OF GOLF and thoroughly enjoyed it. Since retiring eleven years ago and taking up golf, I have read what seems like hundreds of books, on the topic of how to play golf, but this book in my opinion, is the ultimate golf book. It has changed my life as well as my golf game. I have bought two books for myself, one for reference and one to share with my friends. After reading it themselves, they in turn have purchased two to do the same thing. All have remarked saying that it is their first choice for holiday or birthday giving.
This book will change ones' life as well as change their golf game. On a basis of one to five, with five being perfect, I give this "noble" work a perfect five rating. I am now living and playing golf awake.
