5 out of 5 stars Better than Purpose Driven Life   January 18, 2008
While some of the concepts in this book are similar to those in the Purpose Driven Life, this book is far better. Ortberg does an amazing job of putting things into perspective and helping the reader realize that there is much more to life than material things, specifically relationships (with God and with others).
He recites stories that capture the heart while proving his points and illustrating ways to implement the concepts he's introducing.
This book has impacted my life in a way no other Christian book has. It has changed the way I think and they way I act and react.
I am planning to buy another 6 copies to give to friends and family.

5 out of 5 stars A handbook for keeping personal priorities in check   November 24, 2007
John Ortberg is sensitive and full of grace while never compromising truth, as always. "When the Game is Over.." is an absolute must read for believers as well as anyone seeking spiritual truth. An ever-so-gentle (but effective, to be sure) reminder of our nature to gravitate towards self-seeking ways, and the hope we have in redemption in Jesus.

Every Page was a lesson in life, like God was talking to you. Max Lacado puts just the right amount of humor in it. You want to follow along in your Bible the verses referred to in the book.

5 out of 5 stars When The Game Is Over, It All Goes Back In The Box   October 28, 2007
John Orberg has done it again! He has written a book that is humorous, convicting, and can also be used in a practical way. This book shows us aspects of life that we may not have thought of, have tried to ignore, or have tried to avoid. It shows one what is important and what will last. The main emphasis is a relationship with God and people. I purchased the unabridged CD's so that I could listen to them as I drove to work every day. I have listened to the CD's not once but over and over again. I enjoyed this so much that I also ordered the book so that I can follow it with the CD's.
It should be in everyone's library.

John Ortberg is an engaging and entertaining writer with a message. He likens life to a game. When the game is over, all the pieces go back in the box (casket) and what truly matters is not what you've won playing the game, but how you play. You can't live life without focusing some on death. While the basis of the book can easily be summed up in the old adage of life is like a game and it's not whether you win or lose, but how you play, Ortberg gives fresh meaning to it based on scripture and Jesus' teaching. This is truly a thought-provoking book and one that needs to be read by all Christians.
