A Great Source for Actors March 20, 2002 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought this guide several months ago and I love it! I've used it to select scenes for my acting class. It made my search for the perfect scene (whether it was a comedy or a drama) much more easier. Without this guide, I would be wasting my time at the library or spending hours online. I highly recommend this book to anyone who plans to continue studying theatre.
It's a reference book June 19, 2000 124 out of 128 found this review helpful
Just a word of clarification, especially to those new to this kind of material (like myself). This book is like a catalog of monologues and scenes, but does not reprint the actual scenes. You'll need to find the actual scripts elsewhere.
An excellent reference guide for working actors. June 25, 1999 12 out of 15 found this review helpful
Mr.Hooks' comprehensive guide to monologues and scenes is both succinct and insightful. He gives the reader knowledge of the level of difficulty of a piece as well as offering advice on its strengths and weeknesses from a first hand perspective.
a must for audtioning actors March 2, 1999 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
It's about time!!! Thank-you Mr. Hooks. Your book has been a God send, I don't have time to read every play ever written to find a great monologue. Your book did that for me, the short reviews you did were just enough to give me the flavor of the character, situation and play. Thanx for your hard work.
WORTH EVERY PENNY! February 28, 1999 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
This book has saved me the time and agony of sifting through hundreds of plays trying to find good material. It has summaries of each scene and monologue, and where to begin and end. I'm just starting acting, and this resource has given me guidelines and direction when choosing pieces. I feel it would be a good book for actors of all levels who are looking for creative, interesting and challenging new scenes to work on. How about a book on film and TV work Ed?
