I would not recommend this book, even for beginners. There is no "new" information in there. You could read all of it in one issue of Runner's World. It was a disappointment and a waste of my time and money.

This is a book that reaches to all populations. If you never run before or if you've been running your whole life, this book will help you, no matter what!
Following the specific training protocols helps to not overtrain. This book really allows you to learn at any level as well as recommends additional forms of training and nutrition.
