5 out of 5 stars Very helpful book   October 3, 2007
This is a good adjunct to the "Triathletes Training Bible". She works with Friel's training concepts and adds meat to them with specific daily/weekly work out plans. She has specific plans for various distances (sprint, olympic, 1/2 and full Ironman), events (Tri and Duo), and various preparation time periods (12 weeks to 6 months to full year). I think she also incorporates some of the efficiency techniques suggested in Niles "Time Saving Training" and mentions his book as a good resource. It's a well written and interesting book with lots of good info and help in laying out your training and establishing a workable long term plan.

5 out of 5 stars Training Plans for Multisport Athletes: Your Essential Guide to Triathlon, Duathlon, XTERRA, Ironman, and Endurance Racing   September 13, 2007
I was looking for a comprehensive training plan for one year, most books will offer a 12-16 week program. This book delivered the full plan, and I have used it as a beginner triathlete to prepare for multiple sprint and olympic distance races. The nutrition chapter is also excellent.

5 out of 5 stars Finally, a book with easy to follow training plans   June 22, 2007

I've bought a few triathlon training books in my day, and most of them are just full of theory, scientific jargon and a lot of technical nonsense. This book, however, lists everything in an easy to follow fashion, from proper nutrition to how your body type will react to training. And the best thing about this book are the endless training plans that it includes (from sprint to full Ironman), for those who are just starting out to those who have done this for a while and just want to get faster. Plus it lists training for Xterra-type races and duathlons as well, which I definitely want to participate in. I love it!

I bought this book to help with my half-ironman training. It's excellent for all different triathalons!!! Wonderfully written with a ton of information.

In her book, Training Plans for Multisport Athletes, Gale Bernhardt offers great tips, instruction, and structured training plans that cover many multisport distances. As a reader will note, Gale is a disciple of and now contemporary to Joe Friel; so, the owner of Friel's "Bible" will feel instantly at ease reading and understanding Gale's perspective on preparing for multisport competition.

At the same time, a complete neophyte could pick up this book and quickly get up to speed on his/her journey down the multisport path. Gale's writing style is easy to understand and the paths she lays out vis a vis her plans are easy to follow.

This is a great book that will benefit new multisport participants as well as seasoned veterans.
