5 out of 5 stars Realistic and Motivations   January 31, 2007

I have been a mid-level runner for a while (run for fitness and participate in some 5K's through the year but nothing more). When I became pregnant with my second child, I did not keep up with my running schedule and lost a lot of the endurance that I once had. As such, I was looking for a motivational tool to get back on track, as well as a fitness plan to get my body back into the shape that it once was.
This book did both for me: it kept my mind motivated to keep going, and it also set out a fitness/excercise plan that started slow and kept my body motivated. Galloway pushes hard on the idea of "slow and steady" vs. "hard and fast". Too many runners give up quickly because they try to go too fast too soon and they get burned out. Galloway covers all aspects of running for beginners and does a fabulous job with it. The chapters are short and there are nice color photos and check lists to keep the reading interesting. I rate it an A+ and an must have for any beginner runner or someone who has been out of the loop for a while and looking for some motivation to get back into the swing of things.

This is the best book for beginning runners I have ever read.

It sets out a reasonable, attainable schedule for those who have never run before. It also gives good advice regarding nutrition and equipment.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in beginning a running program, especially first-timers.
