2 out of 5 stars Well Intentioned, but Lacking   February 26, 2008

Much like the book The Secret, More to the Secret is brief, oversimplified and lacks sticking power. A bit too much on the primrose path for my taste - but that's not to say it might be perfect for someone else.

Well written, very thoughtful and down to earth. Reorients the path of thought away from the totally superficial and materialistic. A good take on the subject.

3 out of 5 stars Lines Up   January 2, 2008

As a former (longtime) congregant of Ed Gungor's, I can honestly say that what I learned from The Secret lined up quite nicely with many of the biblical principles I learned in church (Ed's church). Many of the principles in the Law of Attraction can be traced back to the Old Testament and are further confirmed in the New Testament. I don't believe I am a god or that I am an equal with God, but I do believe (as taught by Rev Gungor) that I have been blessed with God-given abilities to direct my life in a prosperous and successful way. As with most anything, including sermons from well-meaning ministers of God, you need to sift through the information you are taking in and ignore/discount that which does not line up with the Word of God. The Secret has reinforced for me that 'as a man thinketh, so is he'.......

5 out of 5 stars "The Secret" from a biblical perspective   September 5, 2007

I read "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne and feel that the law of attraction is based on the principles that Jesus taught us. But I believe "The Secret" has a dark side. I am uncomfortable with the suggestion that our minds are the higher power, and that benefiting from the law of attraction and being a Christian are mutually exclusive.

I don't believe that human beings are "gods" that can save themselves through utilizing the law of attraction. In fact, it seems to me that "The Secret" promotes material greed, and blames the victim for the unfortunate events that occur in their lives. Jesus knew the "secret" when he died on the cross, and this "secret" does not protect us from sorrows..... suffering.....dying.

I believe that God is the essential ingredient in the law of attraction. There are countless references in the Bible about faith being the key to everything... answered prayers, peace, happiness, and most importantly our promise of eternal life.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who would like to explore "The Secret" from a biblical perspective.

4 out of 5 stars There is More to the Secret: An Examination of Rhonda Byrne's Bestselling Book "The Secret"   August 6, 2007

By now most people have heard about The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. It is a book that promises that by using the Law of Attraction that you can get virtually anything you want out of life. Although the idea seems pretty intriguing, author Ed Gungor states that there's more to the secret.

There's More to the Secret acts basically as the conscience of The Secret. Whereas The Secret encourages readers to wish for the stars, the more material possessions the better; Gungor's book asks the reader to really think about what they really want to attract. Yes, it would be great to have a new car, a big house, and gobs of money but really would that satisfy you. Even with all this stuff, you'll still be you, you'll still have all the troubles that life brings, and somehow you'll have to pay for all that junk.

I agree wholeheartedly with the author, The Law of Attraction isn't a quick fix method. Often the challenges we face in our life make the journey that much sweeter. I personally tend to believe that the Law of Attraction doesn't necessarily bring us what we want but what we need to better understand ourselves, to live a contented life, and become our genuine selves.
