I am not and have no intention of ever being a veg etarian. however this book has been used more even than the BC boys and girls cookbook (one of my alltime favorites) I regularly make the zucchini moons and carrot pennies as an alternative to just steaming the veggies that accompany my er, dead animal. my daughter loved this book when she was small and it may very well be the only cookbook out there suitable for very small children as the bulk of them are aimed at kids that are pretty much old enough to turn loose alone in the kitchen.
Pretend Soup and Other Real Recipes December 22, 2000 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
Pretend Soup is an outstanding cookbook for teachers, parents and most of all children! Ann Henderson and Mollie Katzen have written a true gem. Pretend Soup is an absolute CLASSIC! Truly child friendly and yummy recipes. I'd like to see more from this duo of writers: what a great idea to pair up an experienced educator & practitioner and a chef. When can we expect Pretend Soup Two! I am a seasoned educator and director and use this book often in my school.PS I am not 12 as indicated above!
Mollie Katzen is the Best May 1, 2000 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
This is a wonderful book, as is it's "sequel", Honest Pretzel, and all the books by Mollie Katzen (we have several). The recipes are delicious and the book is fun to look through, for the great food descriptions, gorgeous pictures, and quotes from kids who made the food. My brother, who's five and loves to cook, loves it, as does the rest of the family.
Adorable! February 16, 2000 27 out of 29 found this review helpful
This bright and engaging cookbook written and illustrated by Mollie Katzen will appeal to children of all ages, from the toddler dying to get his hands in the muffin batter to the 9-year-old just learning his way around the kitchen. Easy to follow illustrations demonstrate the recipes for the youngest "readers", while captivating cartoon characters liven the pages. Fun and delicious taste treats that were served to Mollie's panel of kiddie experts and passed the test! She's got the quotes to prove it. Adorable!
My 4yo son LOVES ~his~ cookbook! July 29, 1999 I just got this recently, and my 4yo immediately took possession. He loves the picture recipe instructions. He made popovers for the family last weekend, almost on his own! Yummy (especially w/ honey butter)
