Well written but unnecessarily upsetting June 29, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Do not read this review if you don't want information about the ending.
I enjoyed this book quite a bit as I have his previous books. However, I felt that the author created an unnecessarily gruesome twist at the end that spoiled the rest of the book for me. If you are someone who is sensitive to images of attack then you may want to stay away from this book.
Not his best June 26, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was disappointed in this book as I have enjoyed most of Chris Bohjalian's works. I really had a hard time getting into the story. The plot was an interesting concept, but the delivery was clumsy. I think this story would have worked better in the first person, I won't say anymore or it would spoil the ending.
The Double Bind June 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
"Having lived and taught in Barnard and Woodstock, VT it was nice to travel around the state with Laurel as she tried to unravel her mystery in "Double Bind." Bohjalian's characters are strong, every day people and the plots well woven. "Buffalo Soldier" is still my number one favorite, but luckily I still have more of you to read. Thanks for doing what you do so well."
Wasn't expecting that!! June 16, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I thought the first half of this book was really boring. Then I started to really like it, and by the end I was so excited...then completely flabergasted. I kept flipping the pages at the end because I didn't really think it was the end!! Completely unexpected. I wish there was more!!
How disappointing! June 15, 2008 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
How unfortunate for an accomplished author like Mr. Bohjalian to pen an otherwise compelling and suspenseful plot, only to completely undermine its credibility in the end, with such blatant mechanical errors. Did he not read his own writing? Did he not realize that he had written entire chapters in the third person about David and his children conversing with each other, in complete absence of Laurel? I don't understand how an author (or an editor for that matter) could so foolishly overlook something like this. I don't think I can read another Bohjalian book. An, oh, the waste of my day!!!
