4 out of 5 stars Good, but doesn't scratch my Phillies "itch"   March 21, 2008

Coste's story is a personal one; for Phillies fans, like me, more interested in the Phillies themselves, I recommend, "The Fall of the 1977 Phillies: How a Baseball Team's Collapse Sank a City's Spirit." This is a Phillies-based story that explains the historically uneasy relationship between the Phillies and the city of Philadelphia and why it is that the Phils get booed so much even when they do well (which, okay, isn't all that often, but still...). For anybody old enough to remember Black Friday -- that horrible playoff loss against the Dodgers in 1977, this book brings it back to life in a way that highlights all the reasons why the Phils and their fans just can't seem to get along. It's baseball and social history all wrapped up together. The Coste book is an inspirational tale, however, that will resonate with anyone looking for a spin on the "rags to riches" story. It's just not a Phillies book, per se.

I received this book today and I am about halfway through it. It is extraordinarily inspiring. I also admire Chris' wife, Marcia, for her unending support and unwaivering faith in Chris. What a testament to her and also to Chris' "Gramps", who inspired in him the love of baseball. Very well written and moving!

5 out of 5 stars The 33 Year-Old Rookie   March 19, 2008
This is the most down-to-earth baseball memoir I've ever read. I was totally engrossed in this honest and inspirational story, and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to read what a real-life Rocky is all about. And every baseball fan will love the behind-the-scenes anecdotes. Be prepared to do nothing else, because you won't be able to put it down.

5 out of 5 stars must-read for phillies fans!!   March 18, 2008
Chris Coste's story is about as inspirational as they come. This book is a must-read for all Phillies fans -- and for anyone interested in how one extraordinarily determined individual did everything in his power to make his dream come true. Coste may never rack up as many homers as Mike Schmidt, but he sure hit one out of the park with this memoir!
