Awesome! October 13, 2008 This comic was awesome, it was very dark, just like the original Batman comics. Me and my boyfriend enjoyed it very much and cannot wait for the game or other comics to come out.
Joker really are wild.... September 25, 2008 This is dark, creepy and so much fun. Got me hooked and ready for more. Those who are interested in the much more bitter side of any graphic novel will get a lovely little kick out of this one. I had to read it twice to take in all of the amazing details both written and drawn. It was wonderful to see the not so goofy side of the Joker and all of gang in Arkham, including Batman himself.
One Giant Headtrip September 24, 2008 To start things off, this entire book is gorgeous. It's entirely painted and looks beautiful while capturing the insanity and twisted elements of the characters and the Joker is captured perfectly. I was also pleased that this comic had the backstory of how Arkham got started and became the twisted and insane manor it is. You get a deeper look into how twisted Joker is and what Arkham can do to the in-mates and gets pretty violent in parts. I'd rate this comic right below Killing Joke as far as Joker being insane and twisted. If you like Batman and Joker, definitely check this one out.
GREAT BOOK September 20, 2008 Its a very good book, with awesome, yet graphic drawings, well maybe not that graphic. The joker is a pretty dark character in this book, very well written story, not exactly what I was looking for, but a great item for batman fans nonetheless.
Good Art; Poor Story September 9, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I liked McKean's artwork a lot when I first read this book but, returning to it today, the style seems overly familiar. In some places the level of darkness and number of symbolic artifacts seems to edge into self-parody.
The basic story is very weak -- Batman walks about the asylum beating up his old enemies. The real emphasis is on how these villians illustrate parts of Batman's character. Personally, I found this less than convincing.
Part of the problem for me is that I have a very low tolerance for paedophilia and torture, and much prefer detection-based Batman stories (such as The Long Halloween).
