WORTHLESS November 27, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Being a good poker player does not make you a good author. If you know anything at all about texas holdem you will be disappointed with this book. Nothing but cookie cutter advice and bragging about being the best poker player in the world.
Solid Book (ignore 'Rip-off" comments) October 26, 2006 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a solid book by a guy who, love him or hate him, knows what he is doing. If you have a basic feel for the game, take a look at this one. For the money it is a good addition to your library. Of course, if you want to learn what he has to say about a few other poker variations, then get the larger book (I forget the title, but you will see it if you search).
This leads me to my last comment. While I do not like to comment on other people's comments, there is one thing that deserves to be mentioned. A few people have complained that this book is merely a ripoff of his other book. This is true. One person even said that it would not have been so bad if the publisher would have mentioned this. Well, in every version of the book that I have looked at, the first sentence in the introduction clearly states that this is meant to be a reprint of the Hold'em stuff from the larger book. It could not be any clearer and is certainly not deceptive. Now, there may be a version of this book that does not include that sentence. However, I would bet that most, if not all, do. Anyways, please don't include those comments when making your decision. They are flat out mistakes.
The braclets, need i say more!! Ok? October 18, 2006 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Yes it is true this small version is like play poker like the pros but added with no limit tourament stradegy at the end of the book. Phill has ten braclets like chan and doyle and the most cashes to this date in the world series of poker. He must be doing something right. Guess its time to buy all phills books.
Great Intro to Texas Hold'em! April 6, 2006 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
As a new player in the world of tournament Texas Hold'em, I found Phil Hellmuth's book very valuable. He takes the time to explain everything from the bare essentials to vital strategies. You can only learn by playing, but by utilizing the information I gleaned from his book, my play has improved dramatically.
Bummer. April 1, 2006 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Here's all you need to know about this book: it's almost a word-for-word reprint of his "Play Poker Like the Pros", which was awful to begin with. Save your money.
I hope Hellmuth actually puts out a great book one day... a guy with 9 WSOP bracelets could probably put out a masterpiece, but this sure isn't it.
