RIP OFF August 29, 2005 17 out of 20 found this review helpful
This is word for word the same book as Play Poker Like The Pros. He added a chapter. The book is one of the worst out of all the poker books. Top ten hands are a joke, nothing about position and actually playing. I think anyone who pays for this is helping perpetuate a scam. This is clearly a revision and should be sold as such, not as a new title. Hellmuth and the publishing company should be fined by the government for selling this book as "new".
Best source to improve your game August 24, 2005 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
Phil reveals his secrets and strategies of Texas Hold'em Poker. Of all the books that are out there his simplistic approach follows just what everyone else is telling us without all the statistical boo hoo. I Use his book as a reference to review before every important tournament I enter. I am proud to say that I have moved from avid amature to contender.
Great Read August 10, 2005 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
If you want to learn to play like the pros then this is the book for you. A little hard to get into but once you got over the jargon then this is a trully great read, and whatever level you play at, your game will improve.
Great beginner's book. August 3, 2005 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
This was the first poker book I bought. Beforehand, I did not know much about odds and playing hands. Phil puts in very simple terms the top 10 hands, how to play them and what to look out for. His "animal" play theory was insightful and helps me read people better. Although this book has a lot of limit hold 'em theory, it is also very helpful for no limit. After loosing over $200 online and in various tournaments, I can finally say I have won a tournament, and I make it to the final table every other time. For the value, this is a great poker book. As a beginner, all of the other books scared me off with their prices, so this was a great deal. I could not be happier.
Good info, great for the price June 18, 2005 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
I'd like to play cards with the disgruntled few that gave this book a low rating. I suggest you read the back cover and/or the introduction before calling that, buy it or not, bet. As the "Brat" states it's a "condensed version". I thought it was a very good read with tips, stragies and antidotes that help anyones game. For the money it's well worth the bet.
