Compulsive Gambling And Women September 20, 2006 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
To the best of my knowledge, this is the finest book out there that grapples with the subject of women and compulsive gambling. It is the story of "Kim" (who could be any woman you know) trapped in an oppressive marriage, mildly bored, who visits a casino on her birthday looking for a little excitement. She gets way more than she bargained for when she hits a jackpot and her life becomes a nightmare of compulsive gambling. Katie Cunningham takes us on the ride of our lives as we live what Kim is feeling, culminating into an act of horrific desperation. The lies, the rationalizations are very real as you tell yourself "it's fiction, it's only a book". But the reality is, there are a million "Kims" out there waiting to happen. This book is literally impossible to put down and won't be forgotten once you do. For any woman who gambles, I can't recommend this book highly enough.
Loved this book! October 29, 2005 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
This book was great! I thought it gave a very realistic look at how a "normal" person could get sucked into compulsive gambling. I could relate to the main character and I think most women between the ages of 25-65 will be able to see the frightening similarities to their own lives. It definitely makes you want to run away from any "casual" gambling opportunities!
