4 out of 5 stars Good but no cigar   July 6, 2001
This book is broken into several sections. The 1st is good because it tells you about the benefits of lifting weights. Plus it describes body types and what to expect from your type. The 2nd part shows you weight lifting techniques. I have several of her videos (4) and really like her, but the program is too easy. I tried to increase the weight but still found the program easy. However, I did like having a program to follow. It jump started me to consistency. The part of losing weight was good. I worked when I did it for a week. Sadly, I've gained the weight back. Now, I'm going to buy another one of her books, one that talks more about losing weight.

I thought this was a great book for the person who is very new to weight lifting. I have Kathy's video, which is great...but this book is progressive, which weight training HAS to be to be effective. It gets a little harder every few weeks. I highly recommend it to those just starting out!

5 out of 5 stars It's a solid book on the topic!   January 17, 2001

The first reviewer of this book, seemed to be referring to a video tape he/she had seen. She is confused. This is not a tape. It is a printed book and a very helpful one at that. I have been a Kathy Smith fan for years. I am 41 and still look like I did in my twenties thanks to Kathy's tapes and books. I also teach weight training and yoga to teens and incorporate every thing I learn from Kathy in my lessons with my students. Kathy's new book will be no exception. I thank you for making Kathy's materials available at a reduced price.

4 out of 5 stars BUY IT!   January 6, 2001

I think that this tape is perfect busy people, like me. I have done free weights before on my own, but I like the way Kathy Smith teaches you correct form and then works out your entire upper body, allowing you to increase weights at your own pace. She is inspirational and motivating, and the tape is now a big part of my exercise routine.
