Loving Someone With Bipolar Disorder May 7, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great! Although I don't have someone in my life now, I can see clearly why the last two relationships failed. This will let me see the qualities in a future "special relationship" checking flexibility in my mate to see if she would even have the capacity to be sensitive to my needs, and patient with my needs all along her benefiting from our relationship as well.
We are all bipolar... May 3, 2007 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
some just more than others. When I opened this book like many others I really did not expect more than a cheery pep talk--was I wrong! For me this work is like manna for a starving man. Having been on Ms. Fast web site I was somewhat familiar with her point of view so I figured $10 was a cheap buy at half the price. I got it and knowing what I know now I would have paid ten times that and still feel I got a bargin. 'Nough said, "NO!!!" If any body is in a committed relationship with an indiviual suffering from this disorder reading this book is like finding a friend who understands. I surmised from reading this that we are all bipolar, some just more than others and that if we frame the relationship in a manner that we can better understand we obtain that "awful grace from God."

Like a lot of people who have been coping with Bipolar Disorder, I have been waiting for a book like this to come around. The only problem I have is that there is somewhat excessive scrutiny of the partner (i.e. me/the one with BP) and not enough emphasis on praise. I am gung-ho about a holistic treatment plan, and the fact that my bf wants to help is a dream come true. But I am not about to fill up a whole notebook of symptoms and behaviors that are undesirable. It is vital to recognize the difference between symptoms, endearing personality quirks, and simply human flaws (yes, we all have them, even if you are in good mental health). I'd warn any BP sufferers to make sure that they are not "vaporized" in this process. Now I think the author needs to write a book for those with BP whose partners are reading this book. I still give the book four stars because it is so pioneering and does present a great management plan overall.
Excellent tool January 30, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this book for my best friend/ex bf and I think its great. I was recently disgnosed as bp II and I think that this will help him understand more how to cope and not make the situation worse. It is so easy to make someone who is being irrational from bp so much worse. I take meds and go to therapy, but this is a great tool for the spouse/partner/friend of someone who is bp.
