Good Not Great November 15, 2005 14 out of 20 found this review helpful
I was a HUGE fan of THE POWER OF NOW so Tolle's follow-up came as somewhat of a disappointment. It is definitely worthwhile and a wonderful inspiration for tapping into the spiritual self. However, on a purely personal note -- it didn't speak to me as strongly as NOW. Also the entire premise of "Awakening to Your Life's Purpose" I found more than a bit misleading since this book primarily entails discovering the consciousness/being below all the SELF and MY labels. It's a hybrid of Zen/Power of Now. A beneficial read, some great ideas and food for thought, and yet somehow lacking.
Superb! November 6, 2005 33 out of 45 found this review helpful
Another superb work of timely importance.
While Mr. Tolle's past works have made many references to the ancient spiritual teachings of the East, and there are still quotes and stories from many different traditional paths to truth here, Eckhart seems to have more of an intent of reaching my Christian brothers and sisters with this work.
Within the book are countless references to stories and quotes from this ancient teacher and the Bible in general.
Eckhart takes time to clarify many of the teachings of Jesus in a direct, modern context one can understand with out the confines of dogma, ideology or organized religion and brings transformative power and vibrancy back to the these ancient stories and quotes.
In a time when fundamentalist Christianity has a strong-hold in the United States and elsewhere, this book can elucidate the true timeless spiritual message for those who are ready to see.
We also get more personal stories here of Mr. Tolle himself to draw from as examples to illustrate his points. Some of them quite humorous.
Please read this book and help create the New Earth as you help create the new YOU. Thank you for sharing the dance. "The powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse" -Walt Whitman
Brilliant, again! November 6, 2005 15 out of 21 found this review helpful
I thought that there was not much else to say, after "The Power of Now", but Eckhart Tolle has surprised me once again with his new book. He puts the question of "Being" and describes the mechanisms in which our ego works and sabotage our true self. I strongly recommend his book, to all those is search of a better life and self understanding
Destined to be a spiritual classic. November 3, 2005 33 out of 38 found this review helpful
Our schools and universities are filled with teachers who are teaching truths that were taught long before they were born. The mark of a good teacher is not whether they can teach only "new truths" but how clear and relevant they can communicate eternal truth to the listener. This is Eckhart Tolle's gift. Most of the ideas in "A New Earth" can be found in Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism and other spritual teachings, but Tolle's ability to find the essence and harmony of those teachings, strip them of their doctrinal coverings and comminicate those ideas in an effective and relevant manner makes this book of the most important written in the past couple of decades. This is a book that can be taught and studied in any church, temple or synagogue, yet still be enjoyed by those who would never consider stepping into any of those places.
Always a clear, succinct message October 31, 2005 21 out of 31 found this review helpful
Eckhart has done it again. A clear , succinct message that we are already that which we seek, namely pure consciousness. Alot of resatement of Power of Now material, but worthwhile none the less. I am so glad to have found Eckhart as one of my teachers, probably my favorite one. A classic.
