Somewhere Between Freud and Oprah April 19, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
A surprisingly amiable book, given Dr. Laura's somewhat strident radio persona. An enjoyable, not too profound, not too shallow meditation on viewing the glass as half full. Pleasant and written with punch that invites re-reading yet won't offend traditional values. It won't tax the reader too much, either but it isn't insipid enough to become a favorite of Oprah's.
Those who are taken aback by Schlessinger's few political asides have clearly not been paying attention. Perhaps they have Dr. Laura confused with the Purple Bracelet Cult. Word to the wise: don't. Stop Whining, Start Living is clearly the superior book.

Dr. Laura does it again April 18, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Dr. Laura again writes about moving forward in life. Taking Dr. Laura's advice about not whining is very important. People spend more time complaining about things than working. Get going, life is too short to be whining all day.

Great Advice April 14, 2008 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Dr. Laura has taken on a problem that is rampant in our society - whining and victimhood.
It seems that far too often these days people let the minor disappointments and problems of life turn them into whiners. Perhaps part of that is that too many people have grown up having it too easy and have not developed a capacity for problems solving. That may be a downside of our affluent society.
In this book, Dr. Laura Schlesinger readily admits that some whining (venting) is fine. She says that is reasonable. The focus of this book is helping those who have turned it into a lifestyle. She does a great job of that. She provides numerous examples from her talk show and life to illustrate her points.
Her advice will help those who have marital problems or virtually any other challenges. This is a great book that should be read by all. Many will see themselves in these pages and will hopefully take something from it.
A book everyone should read April 7, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Even if you don't read the book, the title should be enough. I get tired of all the whining people do. And this book is excellent at giving direction to stop your whining and start living for yourself and those around you. Yes, crappy stuff happens and has happened in your life. But you don't need to dwell on that stuff. You can enjoy life, which, in turn will allow those around you to enjoy your life as well.
Get the book, read the book, and start living again.
