Father's Day or any day for the fisherman or woman June 2, 2004 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
Chicken Soup for the Fisherman's Soul is a delightful collection of anecdotes by people who love to fish, have gone fishing, or know someone who does or has. Some big names are listed on the cover, but there are delightful stories from unknowns. For instance, Taking the Bait, by Jacqueline Michels, the only one included from Alaska, who tells of fishing for more than . . . well . . . you know, fish. Then, Cary Osborne's Half an Inch to Spare, about the one that didn't get away, she gave it away. And the cartoons will bring a chuckle, if not an outright laugh. The inspiration here is for a sport that so many people enjoy for just as many reasons. Read it for a laugh, for a sigh, and maybe for a memory.

This is a great read for anyone who responds to the human condition, set in the context of fishing. The huge collection of bite-sized essays will take you from tears to laughter. The stories from well known people will show sides of them you probably didn't know. The stories by less well known writers will endear you to them as new friends. I have enjoyed this book from cover to cover and return to many stories again and again. I have only put the book down to reach for my fishing rod! When I'm done with the day's fishing, I'm ready to "Play it again, Sam"

I adored this book! It's great to have hanging around, or in your car, for those all too often times you have to wait for someone or something. The stories are short, so you can just pick it up, read one, and then leave it for a while, so that you can read it later. I laughed, I cried.. but most of all, I enjoyed every feeling it brought to me, during times I cannot enjoy my favorite hobby, fishing! For all of those moments you can't be on the water, just open the book and you'll be transported to the river! Ah! The memories!
If You Like to Fish, Feast on This May 21, 2004 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you like to fish, this is a book you'll want to savor slowly so it'll last longer. Do what I did: Read one story every night for the next 87 days. You'll crack up, connect with, cry over, delight in, and feast upon a smorgasbord of stories about fishing that will make you impatient for the second serving.
Great Father's Day Gift May 20, 2004 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was asked to read a fishing story submitted by a friend. I chuckled at the story and started browsing through the book looking for other stories to read. Before I knew it, I had read almost half the book. The fishing stories were not only funny and sometimes emotional, but it brought back childhood memories of when my family would go camping and fish all day long. I love books that can draw any one person into a topic that you may or may not be interested in and keep your interest, and this book does just that!
