5 out of 5 stars Carol Barton--Paper Magic for Everyone   May 24, 2006
Carol Barton is a poet using sculptural paper. With a few scores and cuts, she creates page after page of entertaining, comical and useful paper magic that is simple enough for a child to do. Her paper engineered series of books takes the simplist form and creates a unique experience for anyone interested in learning this paper sculpture medium. It is clearly the most concise and logical of any of the paper engineering teaching guides published today.
Carol's book is perfect for after school programs, libraries, homeschooling arts classes, serious paper engineers who want to start with the basics and build from there. Each book contains preprinted cards that teach by actually building. It is a wonderful addition to any paper engineering library.

4 out of 5 stars Functional and Fun   May 22, 2006
I took a class from Carol 4 years ago, this book was given to me on my first anniversary, paper! It is a wonderful book to have in my collection so that I am able to recreate things learned in class. It would also work well to teach yourself the basics of pop-ups. It is written in an easy to understand manner and gives great examples and practice pieces of paper... It is sure to be enjoyed~

5 out of 5 stars Pocket Paper Engineer by Carol Barton   May 22, 2006
Carol Barton is one of the premier book artists practicing today. In her text, "The Pocket Paper Engineer," she demonstrates the ease in combining and transforming book forms into sculptural objects. The book has easy to follow directions and demonstrates a physical practice through its own design. This text is expansive and contains information pertinent to beginners as well as professionals.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic! For Ages 6 and up   May 22, 2006
As scrapbooking takes on a life of its own in my house, I couldn't help but find Barton's book, The Pocket Paper Engineer, a welcome addition to my scrapbooking supplies.

Through Barton's simple, easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions, I not only grasped the concept of how pop-ups work, but I was able to recreate them--which isn't easy for someone who can sometimes be artistically challenged. In fact, with Barton's help, I'm now able to recreate pop-ups using my own designs.

The Pocket Paper Engineer comes with 16 hands-on pop-up models, clear and detailed instructions for each model, a recommended resource section, and tips on choosing the proper adhesives and grains of paper.

If you're looking for the perfect arts `n crafts project this holiday season, you can't go wrong with The Pocket Paper Engineer.
