Bad Instructions May 4, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I consider myself an intermediate sewer. I find the instructions poorly written. This book is okay, a few good projects. I 'Bend the Rules Sewing' by Amy Karol is a much better book with a better variety of projects.

I loved the tote on front and had heard good things about the book. It is a good read, and beautifully photographed. I was, however, a bit disappointed in the projects. They really just weren't very practical or my taste, but by ordering online, that's my fault. I do plan to make the tote, but probably little else.
Disappointment January 18, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
As usual, the service from Amazon was great. The book, itself, was a disappointing. I didn't find anything much beyond the item on the cover that I really liked.
Great Book January 7, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I eagerly anticipated this book and was not disappointed. There are so many projects I want to tackle!
What a good buy August 29, 2007 66 out of 67 found this review helpful
I've bought quite a few of the recent crop of sewing books. Some of them were a waste of cash and are a waste of shelf space. This one is one of the few - very few! - that isn't. The projects are simple but beautiful and original, the bag on the cover is a great example. She has some very stylish, cool ideas, and her sensibility is what I call Japanese. Interesting use of pleating and pintucks and overlay of different fabrics. She has gifts to wear like very original scarves and wraps, things for the home, like throws and an apron which even I would wear (and I really don't get this whole apron thing), and stuff for kiddies - including a gorgeous leaf cushion I will make myself. The photography is beautiful, the writing is balanced - not cutesy and not dry (compare Break the Rules Sewing and In Stitches - this is a nice halfway house), the templates are well done and even - I cannot stand rough hand drawn templates - and she also has a very thorough intro..... Recommended....
