Nice book for the knitting beginner November 20, 2005 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This book comes as a spiral bound hardback and is attractively produced on good quality paper with well laid out illustrations and textual instructions. I must say I was impressed at the beautiful hand knitting displayed in the sample photographs.
It covers a wide range of methods of casting on and off, several different ways of increasing and decreasing as well as buttonholes, buttonhole bands and a variety of ways of sewing up in different situations.
The book would be ideal for the beginner wishing to consolidate and improve his or her knitting skills and I like the way the author provides a list of pros and cons for each technique discussed.
not bad June 21, 2005 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
This is a good "knitting bag" guide to finishing. It has all the basics and a few extras but doesn't stray far from the standards. I would have loved to see more information on seaming. The basics are there but it would have been great to have a few more pictures and see some of the other variations that can crop up. The author does not seem to approve of circular knitting and some of her 'cons' for this style don't make sense but that is a small part of the book. Over all this is a handy book to have in the knitting bag not on the shelf.
Knitter's Book of Finishing Techniques April 11, 2005 13 out of 22 found this review helpful
I'm a bit disappointed in this book and I agree with a previous reviewer. I already know how to knit - I bought this book to learn about FINISHING. I don't really find much in it that will help me with finishing.
Very Happy That I Bought This Book March 1, 2005 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I am a fairly successful knitter of about 7 years, have done fairly well exhibiting. I bought Nancie's book just a short time ago, and I already used it. Unhappy with my current caston for socks, I looked it up and tried a different one. It is better than what I was using and easier to do! Next, I am using her book to fix a sweater on that I made some mistakes. I think this book should be in every knitter's library.
I use this book w/every project I make.... October 19, 2004 16 out of 17 found this review helpful
Well, maybe not the glitzy little scarves, but everything else. I love the portability of the book and the binding allows it to sit flat on top of my copy of Vogue Knitting. Ms. Wiseman picks up where Vogue leaves off. I've only been knitting for a few years, and I can definitely see the difference between my sweaters "pre-Nancie" and "post-Nancie." Ms. Wiseman explains how important the little details are. I recommend this book to all my beginning knitter friends (after their first sweater) b/c it helps explain the why as well as the how & when to do things to get a certain result.
