5 out of 5 stars Great Choices! Easy to Use!   March 15, 2008

This book gives many options for knitting socks! You will never get bored with the same pattern over and over. Easy to follow and gives directions for several avenues to knit (4 kneedle, 5 kneedle, or circular needles). Would highly recommend for knitters with some sock experience. Not for a true beginner but for advanced beginner. Love this book and have shared with others as it gives directions based on the size of the sock you are knitting. Great book!

5 out of 5 stars Thought Out and Inspiring.   January 9, 2008

I have many general reference books on knitting with chapters devoted to socks and a few specialty books on socks but this was worth every dime to me. If you have never knit a sock you'll be walked through the process but there are graduated patterns and different methods of knitting socks. You can be creative by plugging in patterns that are difficult or simple and size them for whoever you want to knit them for. It does require some concentration at first but the more I use it the more I love it. The sock photography is very inspiring.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best books around for knitting socks   December 1, 2007

I have lost track of the number of pairs of socks I have knit using the patterns from this book. It's a great resource for anyone who wants to try their hand at this fun art. Her additional hints and tips have been invaluable to me.
I highly recommend it. I also have her More Sensational Socks. They are the core of my sock knitting library, books that I consult again and again for help.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book but not for beginners.   November 16, 2007

If you want to truly understand what makes up a sock and be able to knit them on your own without an exact pattern, this book is wonderful!

Personally, I like to understand how something is put together and then make my own rather than an exact duplicate of what someone else has made - this book let me do that.

If you're the type of knitter who needs a lot of pictures and don't have a lot of experience, you may want to look for something else first.

5 out of 5 stars A sock book for all levels   October 2, 2007

I'm an experienced knitter and I own a TON of knitting books (about four books just on socks). But I wish this had been the FIRST sock book I read. Here's what I love about it:
* The designs are realistic -- they're socks I would actually wear, let alone spend months (at my rate) knitting
* It teaches how to knit ANY SIZE sock, from toddler to NBA player, with easy-to-understand tables. Who knew the foot circumference was such an important measurement?
* It has the BEST instructions I've ever read on that blasted kitchener stitch. Most how-to books explain how to do it when the two edges can be placed flat, right sides up, but of course that's impossible when you're knitting in the round.
* She teaches you how to mix and match different leg patterns and heel and toe methods in a way that actually makes you want to try them.
* Using her method, I have finally eliminated the hole at the top of the gusset! I used to have to stitch up the hole when I wove in the ends, and that always bugged me.
* Don't let the goofy cover fool you. This is a classy, foolproof, indispensable book.
