5 out of 5 stars Intresting read, fun projects   May 15, 2008

I can't believe this book has gotten as many negative reviews as it has! I pre-ordered it prior to it's release and love it! I've been needle felting for a while now and am really enjoying the projects. Sure not all of them are for me but the techniques used in all the projects are applicable to whatever I am doing. I buy these books to help me learn the craft and hone my skills in said craft, not just pump out cookie cutter copies of the projects the author has already written. What fun is there in that? If that's what you're looking to do don't bother with books, save your time and money and go buy the stuff already made on Etsy.

2 out of 5 stars Great cover   May 14, 2008

I was so excited when I got this book because the cover picture hooked me right away. So I was a little let down after receiving it to discover that most of the projects just aren't my "style." For example, a "gumdrop ring" that is a golf ball-size ball of felt attached to a ring base. Or a flower pin that looks to be about the size of a dinner plate. And some of the projects, like the "birdie mobile," look like--to me, anyway--they need maybe one more step or two to really look "finished." The techniques, I think, are rather interesting, however, and I hope to learn something from this book now that I bought it. Others may really love it if their syle is more fun/funky/juvenile. The cover is really the best part,in my opinion, and my eleven-year-old may enjoy the bulk of these projects more than me.

5 out of 5 stars "would buy again"   May 8, 2008

I bought this for my sister who's an avid crafter. Although she's new to needle felting she's really been enjoying the book. No regrets on the purchase she's easily gotten a few hours in on it already.

5 out of 5 stars Great book!   May 4, 2008

I've been following Jenn Docherty's work for quite a while and was really excited when I heard she was coming out with a book. After going through this book for a couple weeks now I gotta say that it's excellent. This book tackles needle felting from a while angle giving the reader a astral view on the world of needle felting. From embellishing t-shirts to making cutesy animals to creating your own jewelry. There's something in there for everyone. I love Jenn's animals the most and there are a few projects in the book dedicated to their creation, albeit mine don't look quite as good but I'm still practicing!!! Keep in mind though, this book isn't 100% on making animals. Which I think is a good thing because needle felting can be used for much more then furry creatures. So if you want to learn needle felting while making some neat-o projects, pick this book up!

Oh and to the two negative nancys that posted the bad reviews for this book, wow! You guys need to grow up and learn how to make educated purchases. Amazon provides tools that allow you to preview a book pretty thoroughly prior to purchase, my advice, use them and stop breathing your hate on hard working crafters that are providing a service to the rest of us. Keep your chin up Jenn!!!

5 out of 5 stars Loved it!   May 3, 2008

I really liked this book! I think the projects are fun, colorful and creative, and in no way "tacky & poorly made" as the previous reviewers said. I think those people may just not appreciate or understand the aesthetic this book is going for. There are a lot of really boring needle felting books out there, with dull projects, and all of the ones featuring 3 dimensional projects seem to focus on grotesque looking hippy-dippy stuff, or just plain blah stuff with really ugly colors/designs. This book is the first one I've seen that has cute and inspiring projects, and I was especially excited by the dolls & animals.
I think the instructions are very clear, considering there are detailed photographs throughout the book, so anything that may be unclear in text is pretty easy to figure out by looking at the picture (or by using some common sense!)
