You NEEDThis Book... February 27, 2007 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
There are at least 3 dozen gemstone ID or how to buy the perfect gem books on my shelves. The three that sit next to the computer are Walter Schumann's Gemstones of World and two by Antoinette Matlins - Gem ID Made Easy and Color Gemstone Buying Guide. As a Jewelry Design, Lapidary and Gemology student I am always reaching for for one or the other. Thanks Antoinette we always get your best effort!!!
For the novice, this book is wonderful. February 10, 2007 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have really enjoyed this book, so far. Very easy read. Great illustrations, beautiful pictures, excellent information all around. I recommend this book whole heartedly. It also has info about schools and equipment. She makes it easy to understand the world of gemstones. Thanks!!

This is a more up-to-date version than I had previously bought. I highly recommend this book for beginners as well as advanced people. It is written in easy to understand english, but has very few colored pictures. This should be the first book you purchase in learning gemology.
Good guide September 1, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Good book for someone interested in knowing what they have. It is based on using specific equipment, but does give the biginner a good understanding of what is needed, and how to use it.
