Fabulous!! May 14, 2007 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I was extreamly impressed with not only the content, but the quality of the photos. It is hard to find jewelry books that display true art and inspire. Most of them are just cheesy "artsy-crafty". I would definatly by this book again and any of the same collection.
Excellent design guide May 13, 2007 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
500 Earings provides a wide vision on contemporary jewelry and design. It is a must have for any jeweler.
500 Rings May 13, 2007 5 out of 11 found this review helpful
I liked many of the picture of the earrings. Many of the pictures where way out as far as design. It would make sense to let the really far out designs, have there own book. I like art jewelry, but unfortunately, much of the far out designs, are not marketable. There were many designs that are very different and still marketable. I would have to say I feel the same about the other books in this series.
Simply Stunning March 28, 2007 24 out of 24 found this review helpful
Congratulations to Lark and to Alan Revere (juror) for selecting an absolutely stunning, jaw dropping extravaganza of contemporary earrings. This collection is one of the best assembled, every page was completely different; a lovely photo, with a brief description of the materials and methods used to create the masterpiece. All styles, shapes, materials, assembly methods, design concepts seem to be covered, earrings that actually work and are wearable. In fact at least 95% of the earrings could be put into your jewellery collection immediately, a refreshing change from over the top "interpretations" that would never see the light of day.
I started to list the earrings that had stood out for me, and then realised that I would be listing nearly every one! A good blend of materials used too. After my disappointment with 500 Necklaces, I am once again very happy with this marvellous series of Books for Inspiration. Perhaps one of the best things with this book is that it will appeal to a wide variety of people. Traditionalists will love the classic and timeless pieces which bring Precious Metals and Gems together, on the other hand there are cutting edge designs and a diverse use of more "modern" media, plastics, resin, rubber, paper etc. Add to the mix found objects or unusual media such as toothpicks, butterfly wings and minature tyres ( that all actually work!!) and you have just about everyone's taste covered.
No instructions or projects here, just fabulous photos to fill your head with ideas and a desire to create (or rush out and buy!) I would still like to see a contact website or email listed alongside the artists name and country, contained in the back of the book. Then again, maybe not, I would surely be bankrupt after contacting the artists and trying to buy hundreds of these gorgeous earrings. Definitely a must have!
